The Old Folks Home

You obviously don't sew!

Edited to add: or play american football!

Quote: Fabric is measured in meters here. And most people in the world are more familiar with football, where eleven and sixteen meters are critical measurements.

But still, a yard or a meter are arbitrary. A foot is an intuitive measurement, as in if you have never heard the concept of measurements, but you have a foot, the concept of a foot would be more easily understood without an explanation than the concept of a yard or foot.

*Edit* I meant yard or meter. I really shouldn't stop thinking before finishing sentences.

My favorite example of intuitive software design was when I put a smartphone with a gallery of photos in my girlfriend's grandmother's hand. She had never used one, but scrolled through the photos by herself. I thought that was cool.

I put my last 2 eggs from the incubator into the hatcher. Extremely dark eggs. They're due to hatch tomorrow so I know I waited too long but I just got all the chicks out today.
I have 5 more eggs I'm moving to the LG. Not sure if they'll hatch. They were under a first time broody and one day she just moved to a different nest with fake eggs in it. It was really hot that day so I thought they might survive.
Then I'll take the incubator/hatcher apart, replace the ailing fans with higher power ones and hopefully get a new controller installed in the incubator. The hatcher has redundant controls and heat elements as well as high and low alarms so I'm not as worried about that. The incubator has the eggs for a much longer period and it's current controller is more fickle.

I took the unfertile eggs away from one broody and moved her to another broody apartment with clean shavings and a new plastic nest pad with 5 eggs due to hatch next week. She refused to sit on them and went to the roost. I put the eggs back in the incubator, cleaned out her old housing unit and nest box but instead of putting a plastic nest pad in I put pine shavings in. Then I pulled the eggs back out of the incubator, put them in the nest and put her back in there. She promptly went to set.
Then I put eggs due to hatch in 2 weeks in the other clean unit and pulled the fickle broody that kept switching boxes into that unit. She squawked for a long time but eventually went in to sit on the eggs. With only one box in that unit I think she'll do ok.
It's so hot, I not too concerned that they were off of the eggs a while.
We shall see.

I love paella. That's so cool you have a pan. I've never really had it except in Spain and at this festival. There's a new restaurant that's a combination of Spanish and Latin American dishes that has paella. It's half price on Thursdays. I have to go try it.

Son started his Junior year at college in his actuary program today. He's really excited.
His boss at the tree house restaurant gave him a raise to get him to stay so he isn't quitting after all. It is such a long drive though. The raise will probably cover his gas. When he was living in the city he could ride his bike to work.

Vehve I agree on photographing people being difficult. The hardest part for me is to get them to "pose" natural. How do you make a pose not look like a pose? LOL Anyway, people and lighting (along with continuing to work on my Photoshop skills) are the biggest lessons I have for the upcoming year. I just got to keep working on it. I have all the simple gear I need to start.
