Oh, my GOSH!!! I sound like I grew up in another country and don't speak English very well. LOL I was distracted when I was writing that. I apologize for transposing bamadude and confused. I transpose numbers but that is the first time I can remember transposing words. LOL Dang! I must be getting old. LOL

Wisher I DID wonder why you were greeting new members when your thread is so busy. Thought you wanted to take a break or see how the "other half" lives. I have inadvertently unsubscribed from threads I really wanted - when, I am purging new member posts from my subscription list. Then I can't recall what the threads were called.

I hate when that happens.

Well I had a pleasant surprise this afternoon. Went outside to do the water for the birds and thought I heard baby birds cheeping. Went investigating and sure enough one of my turkey hens hatched four (I think) poults. Now what the heck am I supposed to do? We are going out of town in a couple days.

Put out game bird starter fence momma and poults off and let her take care of business....?

deb "only raised up poults from the feed store"

Welcome to the new folks, and Wisher! ;-)

So it looks like I'm going to be a quail owner as of tomorrow! A friend of a friend is wanting to get out of the quail business and is letting a bunch of Pharoah coturnix quail and cage go for a great price, and that was one of the breeds I interested in! Ack! I'm pretty excited. Add to that, the fact that the hatchery I got my last batch of chicks from is replacing my "sexed" egg layers, that turned out all to be boys, with new sexed female chicks, and I'm gonna be a busy chicken momma! :-D. CHICKEN MATH!

Dsqard, I agree, let momma take care of it. She obviously didn't want your involvement in the brooding process.

Wisher, welcome back to TOFH.

Now, if you'll indulge me, let me show you what I've been up to:

Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse in Portland, Maine. It's a neat breakwater to walk out to, it's pretty long and you have to hop between rocks on the breakwater to get out there.

Rockland Breakwater Light. Also a breakwater that you have to walk (but less gaps between the rocks) to get out to the light. It's a 2 mile round trip.

It was open lighthouse weekend, so you could go in all the lighthouses and up in the towers. Some of these places were mobbed. I did get up in most of them. They all had really narrow rickety steps.

Of course we had to go to Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth (the most photographed lighthouse in America). You can see our foliage is just starting to get a pop of color.

Also made it out to (and up in) Pemaquid Point Light. This one is really neat and has nice jagged rocky coast to scramble on.

And lastly made it out to Owl's Head. This is a really cute and small light on a bluff that is incredibly picturesque when there isn't 430698 people standing in line to get up inside it. We didn't wait around to get in this one. The line was craaazy.

Hope you enjoyed your little vacation to Maine's mid-coast.

I used to love Jalepenos  but in the past fifteen years all the ones I have gotten have been "off". Then recently I sampled some from a local restaurant that specializes in Sea Food and strictly traditional Mexican fare.  OMG what a difference.  So I asked for the usual bag of Carrots.  Which are the Carrots they pickle in with the Jalepenos.   Usually you get about three peppers in with a whole lunch bag of Carrots.  OMG Theywere all yummy.  Then I noticed a little tiny Dried Red pepper in there.  DANGER Will Robinson my brain told me....  I tasted it any way.  That was where the flavor flair came from That and the teeniest hint of Garlic AND bay leaf.   I Scarfed them all... Well except for the little red pepper.  It looked like a Thai pepper the kind you find in Thai food.  I suspect it wasnt one of those but a Dried ripe Serano Chile....  very spicy but a whole different flavor profile than Jalepenos.

So for those of us who like the flavor but not the extreme hot...  Carrot slices are a good addition to your pepper preserves.

For Jalepenos... Bay leaf and a teeny bit of Mexican Oregano....   At least thats what I tasted from the bag.....  AND too you can add onions that can be added to hamburgers as a condiment or diced and sauted in with fish that can handle spice.

I do cold pickled onions all the time.  They only take an hour or two to be used as a condiment...  but the longer the better.

My mother made "Pepper Sauce" the way Bama described it. The pepper sauce was a required condiment for collard greens, turnips or any other type of greens. My grandmother grew buckshot peppers. They were hot and about the size of a buckshot. That pepper sauce was for adults only.
