The Old Folks Home

Guys have to admit I am in love again. I wasn't searching for it - it just hit me like a ton of bricks. I was perusing the frozen dessert aisle in Walmart when suddenly Boom, this vision jumped out at me. It said " Haagen Dazs Gelato dark chocolate coated tiramisu bars. I felt faint, I don't like dark chocolate but, I love tiramisu. My head was spinning. I convinced myself it would be worth suffering through the dark chocolate as long as the tiramisu part was good.

I'm here to tell you the Tiramisu part was THAT good, and the dark.choc. was better than expected.

I don't know photography, but one of the things I picked up in drawing classes decades ago might also help.

There's an idea of "movement" in a picture - the way the items in the picture lead your eye from one area to another. Of Alaskan's two pictures, the water in the foreground on the second picture automatically collects your attention, and leads it to the back and to the right, then the water, the trees, the sky, all move your eye back to the left. It gets you involved, leads you in to the picture. In the first picture, the foreground (nearly a third of the frame) is just grass and some not particularly interesting dead leaves. That has a feeling almost of being a wall, keeping you out of the scene. Try covering that part up with your hand, right up to the edge of the water, and see if the picture isn't already more interesting.

(Did anybody notice that in vehve's second picture of the pencils on the desk, even the grain on the desk "moves" to the upper left?);)

Not until you mentioned it.

The rule of thirds is great. But I just snap whatever and edit it later to get a better shot.
This was just a pic from my phone, not the greatest quality but the little dude is a favourite subject so I like it.

You'd waste your money.     :gig    I've never won any kind of ticket or game.  Before
i have almost broke even on the lottery. In my lifetime i have spent about $125 on lottery tickets. Ive won back about $80. We dont have the lottery in bama. We have to drive to florida or georgia to play it. Thats probably a blessing because i could scratch those scratch off tickets for days

A buddy of mine had to drive past the casino on his way to and from work every day. It was about 3 blocks from his house and on the river next to the bridge he had to cross so he literally had to drive past. Occasionally he didn't make it to work. Needless to say he was down to the casino a small fortune. One day he won $30,000. From that day forward, as he drove past the casino, he'd look that way and say "heck with you" (in more graphic terms) and he never went back.

henible I used to not worry about using the rule of thirds but since I am trying to improve my photography skills, I am forcing myself to really look at the composition before snapping the picture. This makes for a lot less "waste" in post processing since I don't have to crop most of my photo away. :D

I have never lost a penny in a casino

I've been about 4 times in the US and only played the penny slots. Hours of entertainment and either up a quarter or down a dollar or two. I'm still none too fond.

That said, I used to go once or twice a week in CR - on ladies night. It was walking distance from where I stayed. Over my stay there I pretty well broke even. Very loose slots.

So true, friends dragged me the 4 times I went. Hence the reason I stayed with the penny slots.
I never play the lottery either.
The odds are what?
