The Old Folks Home

So today is day 25 for the duck eggs and they are now in lock down! I have 5 of the six eggs moving and we just heard a few peeps! My god it's amazing to watch. I'm a nervous wreck.the sixth egg was slipped in by my middle DD so it's a good day behind the rest so we are hoping it will catch up.

Fingers crossed for the extra egg.

I will say, though, it was pretty darn convenient to just go to the local casino to bet on horse races. DH and I would bet $6 each weekend. By the end of the summer we won enough to put ceiling fans throughout the house and replace all the faucets. (That was a GOOD year!)

My moms BFF Dorthea was the manager of three Buffets before she retired... I was twelve when we moved from there... they had just built the first Ceasars Palace and we thought.... Who in the H double Hockey sticks would want to gamble out there... That was in 1967. Any way Dorthea was married to a long haul trucker. She was also a professional gambler. He NEVER knew how much money she had.

I watched her one time mom and dad were getting ready to sit down at a slot machine and she grabbed them up and said NO... not those and put them over by a busy corner. They were making big payoffs in no time. She then came over and said lets go they are done...

We lived off Owens within sight of the tallest buildings down town... OMG the fireworks there were awesome... Then one day some one rode their horse to my school out from the desert.... I followed her home on foot.... I got in sooo much trouble for that. Come to find out she was just a year older than me.... I sooo wanted to be her friend. We moved before I could further that venture...

Here in San Diego I had two choices a surfboard or a horse... Mom and dad thought they were getting the better end. My infatuation turned to a passion and I was out of their hair for a great part of the day.... Kept me out of Teen age trouble pretty much as well.

Perchie, social phobias kept me safe during my teen years, so never smoke, drank, did anything "else," If, it could be called "safe" actually I felt like I missed the bus. In my late 30's and 40's and beyond I started revisiting things I missed as a teen. Had my son when I was 38. He just had his 29 th. birthday Sunday. Boy, they grow up fast - like chicks.

San Diego was the first place I "tried" to surf. It was Christmas 1974. The surf was way too big for beginners. My cousin, a couple of his friends and I drove out there in my cousin's VW beetle. You read that right, 4 guys, 4500 miles, Volkswagen.
We each visited one or 2 of our army buddies. I had a buddy in Oakland and one in SD. That trip was my first time to Mexico too. If you can call it Mexico - Tijuana.

Cleaver, for sure. But I like to fiddle in Photoshop etc also. When I can I try to line up my shots but I don't bother if I'm using the phone camera. I have a tiny tripod it's maybe 5 inches tall and the legs are tough and flexible, I've gotten some nice pics with that silly thing. Best Christmas cracker ever!

I am completely blown away by the great photos you can get out of a phone these days. It really is amazing. Those gorilla tripods are really handy too. I do "fiddle"

with my pictures in Photoshop too. Mostly to adjust the color a bit or little things. Sometimes I do more (layers and such) but I am just really learning how really use the full program. There are a ton of things I don't know how to do yet. I have a book and I look up videos a lot on how to do different stuff. The main reason to have a DSLR is the ability to shoot in RAW format. That format allows you to correct a lot of shooting mistakes like adjusting exposure and such. Looking forwards to our trip tomorrow down to the Grand Canyon for a few days. This is my graduation/birthday present to myself.

Dorthea was wise in her choice of slot machines. The loosest machines in Las Vegas, though, are at the airport. The best time to catch any machines on the Strip is the first couple of days a new casino opens. After that it's just a big sink hole.

The fireworks are still awesome in LV. On New Year's Eve seven or so of the downtown casinos coordinate to have identical fireworks. And on the Fourth of July it's from sunset to midnight for the whole valley... It looks like a very active little pyrotechnic lava lamp with colors bursting up from the valley floor. We lived in Henderson on the uphill slope and had a great view...and then the next day all the used gunpowder smell drifted up. For a couple of years the City of Henderson display was at the big park kitty-corner to our division. That was awesome.
