The Old Folks Home

Was hoping someone else had an idea. It's the weight I've gained since my husband died. He'd be wondering what happened to me if he saw me now. I swear I'm going to lose this starting next mont, or sooner. No matter how long it takes. I have way too many clothes I could be wearing to not do something about it.

I lost a lot the first year. The second I discovered chocolate makes everything better. I'm sorry about your husband. I never thought I'd get though the first year and that no one could be as sad and feel as horrible as I did. Not something I'd wish on anyone.

Just remember to stay hydrated and eat when you can.

The beekeeping class was interesting. I guess I shouldn't have read the textbook all the way through before the first class. Most of the people were complete newbies with no knowledge, and I had specific questions about how the material fit into what I wanted to do. It didn't really work. Hopefully everyone reads the assignments for the next class so we're on the same page.

They did say that most people are sold out of bees by January 1st, so I probably won't get any this year. I found one person around here who will pick some up from Georgia and drive them here but the delivery date is when I'm in Utah with DiDi. BF offered last night to "just throw them in the hive, how hard can it be."

This is a man who abhors stinging insects with a passion. When I explained to him that the package wasn't just a queen and a couple of attendants, that it was THREE POUNDS of bees PLUS the queen and her attendants, you should have seen the horror on his face. It was priceless.

I would really love to do this. I just don't have the money for what would be needed right now.

We did cut down a dead oak last fall and found out it had a big hive of bees in it. We just left the section of the trunk (almost 12 feet long) that was full of bees lay where it was. I did roll it a little so the hole they go in & out of was facing south and pointed down slightly. We didn't disturb them otherwise and I hope they can find a new home in one of the other old oaks around here. They would have been great to move to a new hive to harvest from.

My grandfather raised bees and had some 200 hives at one time setting around a 150 acre hay field. Best honey in the world!
