The Old Folks Home

Its not weird. when I was a kid we had a turkey patrol.12 fully grown toms running full out across the yard to say "HI, do you have candy" kept everyone in their cars. Nobody wanted to trust them. Even the moose (who commonly bed down on our lawn" couldn't stand the pests and kept on moving.

Well, you smarties, *I* just changed the language on my new Olympus SP-740UZ Digital Camera from something Asian to English. So there.

In doing so, I discovered I had indeed manage to TAKE some photographs when I first got its battery charged in January. When I tried to set it up.

I believe they could be candid in the highest form, as I didn't know I'd done it. Photos of the falling snow, the flock members out in it, etc.

After I get a few pictures taken with full awareness, I'll download 'em to the PC and share some. Right now I'm just tickled I can read the function display text!

Oh you women. Ok, not all of you but........ That is what Instructions are for. I don't know how many times, I've had to redo something the Missus or the neighbors wives had done wrong because "reading instructions " are for dumb people.

sheesh....

But you could always learn Japanese or Korean....

Funny, isn't it - women often accuse men of not reading directions (or asking them!).

But I've read more than a few directions that looked like they were written by someone who, though they were trying to communicate in English, were more familiar with Japanese or Korean.

Colic-- for that reason a constant worry. However, I don't have that problem in my crew. I think it is because mine are either on 24/7 turnout with a run in shed or 12 out, 12 in schedule. Horses where not designed to live in a stall IMO. I still remember a few too many colics. When they are bad they are memorable. Unfortunately.
Shorty has a barn to escape the weather, a corral and small pasture for night time. There is no real grass in the pasture, just winter weeds, Rye and other stuff he eats. I do believe it is weather related. This warm a couple of days and cold for a few has really thrown him off, been going on since heck, all winter really.... he was shedding then stopped, now again shedding. . Last time he was colicy or close to it was again, when the weather did this for over a month.
he is doing better so I did catch it in time. it pays to know your animals and how they act...

Now if only I could get it right with those darn humans.......

tick, the instructions for this camera are on a CD; there was no " Quik Guide" booklet in the box. Well, other than a sheet indicating the instruction manual was on the CD. I've never had a camera before without an easy way to bulldoze through the in-camera menus.

Every time I fiddled with the camera, trying to understand the icons - surely the wrench thingie meant "settings," or tools or something useful, I got into menus with more Asian ideographs.

Y'see, the CD was.... Somewhere. But I finally located it.

Tick, if you ever figure that one out, they might give you a Nobel prize!

But you are so right about knowing your animals' behavior. We had a horse at the barn that had had a few colic episodes over the course of a couple of months, even though he was turned out for at least half of the day. One evening, I brought him and fed him his dinner as usual. Though he was otherwise acting normally, I noticed a few minutes later that he had barely touched his feed. That was a real red flag, and as the owner and trainer were both there, I pointed it out to them. They both sort of rolled their eyes and groaned, but went home as usual. Sure enough, while they were both en route, I called them to inform them that he was rolling around in his stall.

In his case, switching from Coastal Bermuda to Timothy hay turned out to be the answer.

gryeyes, it seems everything now is online or on a CD. I miss the old paper manuals.

I need to know how my item works and don't have a smart phone. I am one of those that knows a smart phone is smarter than me. Plus I don't need the data extra expenses...

So inside I go and off into the world of viruses, Root kits and other nasty things that go bump into the puter. I look it up and read til I go blind or blurry. Print out some important pages if needed and off I go.

Oh Bunnylady, I do know about the sudden change of food with any animals. A hard lesson learn.... Slowly mix new with old and work it from there. Always made sure I have a bale or two of the old stuff when switching food or supplier....
Funny how a different source of food can cause troubles as well...

Well an awesome day, with a nice mid 60s temp, no breeze for once and an all out productive day. As you see I took some breaks but got the garden ready for my seedlings, let the chickens out and did basic yard work. I am ready, ok, maybe ready to start planting the garden, rake, mulch the yard waste and get on with Spring. temps are still a little off with warm and cold days still ahead but looks like a better chance than any in March....

Making double tacos tonight... corn shell and fixens inside, flour with beans outside, slap together and mmmm, the missus loves when I cook any type of Mexican. One of the few good things I learned living in Cali....

Everyone have a Happy Easter tomorrow.
and remember why we have Easter....
