Wow thanks Ron! That is great to know. Do you know anything about starting incubation and then shipping after incubating for a couple days first. I know I saw something about it but never saw if anyone did any further tests.
Thanks Ron.

I did not try that last year--It was incubate for 24 hours and then ship the eggs.

Awww I am so sorry about the turkey egg cracking. That is terrible!

How many of the Buckeye eggs are left? Any?

Well looks like your hen will have at least some company.

3 of the buckeyes are left. I candled last night and what's left appears to have been developing at a good rate. The buckeyes are due to hatch on Tuesday.

OOH! is your snow melting?

Do you have mud yet?

It is melting, although we still have snow. We have soooo much mud. The chicken run had about 5 inches of mud in it the past week. I spent a few hours doing some civil engineering and building canals so the puddles could drain down the hill. I was fairly unsuccessful at first because the chickens were still out and insisted on landscaping the way THEY wanted it, not me. But when they went to bed I was successful. The next day we got a lot of wind and the mud stiffened up. Rain is forecast the next 7 out of 10 days for us, so I anticipate I'll be doing some civil engineering again.

SCG, just pick up some perforated pipe and bury it in the run. It will ease your troubles greatly. To maximize the effect, dig a trench, put in landscaping cloth, put in a thin layer of gravel, then the perforated pipe, cover with gravel, fold the landscaping cloth over it, and then top it off with the mud. Getting the pipe down about 8-12 inches would be good. It will be a bit of work, but it will pay off eventually.

We have a ton of slate and granite just a few inches under the soil here (and sometimes less than that - I have one patch of "lawn" that's flat rock). When I had my fence built they had to bring in a device to drill down into the slate and then concrete and pin in the posts. Last year when we planted apple trees we couldn't find a good spot for the last tree on account of not being able to get down far enough due to the large rocks. So although the pipe idea sounds great, it isn't feasible.

Ron- Hope your wife recovers soon.

Glad you are feeling better.

Spring is here. We are getting lots of rain. Currently I am looking through my window at a rose bush about to bloom and a dragonfly sitting on it and listening to the thunder!

Congrats on the hatching. My co-broodies are being good mamas. Chicks are a week and a half now and all doing well. I need to take some up dated pics once I have a dry moment. Camera/rain not a good combo.

Here is some of my turkey poults that have been hatching since yesterday. I still have one pipped and two in the hatcher. But these are survivors of the half power in the back room.

I just read something cool. We are voting in a new parliament this coming Sunday, and apparently something that's been used by facebook in other countries is now going to be used here. There will be a "I voted!" button on facebook on Sunday, so that you can inform your friends that you've taken a part in shaping democracy. It will be very cool to see if it has some sort of effect. Like in many other countries, young people tend to be lazy voters here too, and maybe social media can help rectify that.
