The Old Folks Home

Gulf Coast Native Sheep are interesting. Left by Spanish explorers, they evolved to survive the heat and humidity of the Southeast with no wool on their face, legs or bellies.

I have investigated many of them... in the desert its best to not have wool to catch on cactus and thorny bushes.

Barbados Black belly is what I want.... They are naturally polled and very predator wary.
below is a ram.

But I want only Ewes

I saw a herding presentation done with Suffolks and Australian shepherds, it was super cool how they moved the flock. Err, herd. What's a group of sheep called?
I don't know more than the term flock. But I want sheep for foliage control and meat. The Hair sheep don't develop that back fat up over their loin... in the heat of the desert its not necessary. Makes them thriftier feed wise. Where their is no water there is no "pasture" so all feed has to be provided in bale form. The browse only supplies them with enrichment feed...

If I had acres and acres to graze on I would need a livestock guardian dog and to be able to check on them a couple of times per day.

All moot till I can get moved on my property and good fences.
