The Old Folks Home

My sister's house used to get egged frequently - kids had the wrong address - they wanted to get a teacher living a couple doors away. When I used to walk quite a bit, I got egged (sorta) twice. First time they just splattered my shoes, second time - a clear miss. I figure now eggs are so cheap - the kids will stock up, it's much cheaper than tp-ing someone's trees, bushes etc. I also got sprayed with some kind of clear fluid - must have been just water - didn't cause any damage. But after that, if someone drove up near me with a window open on the passenger side - I would give them wide berth.

That sucks Diva. Even in my youth, I never did stuff like that to old folks, in fact I actually went out of my way to try and help them... especially if they had money and paid me for the help

I was supposed to be at a hearing appt this morning at the VA for my first shot at hearing aids... Over slept and there was no way I could make it on time. Called them and will need to reschedule. Haven't been sleeping well of late, and over slept. forgot to turn on the alarm. Seems I sleep best in the morning when the BR is at its coolest. Never was much of a morning person, I suppose I should stick with afternoon appointments.

Diva that is terrible that anyone's kids would do such a thing!

Latestarter we make afternoon apt. we get up, but don't get going to early.

Alaskan how is all the flood after care going in Tx?

Where I am there is no flooding, river is super high, but starting to subside.

I am trying to get my dad into a care facility.

My Grandmas neice diagnosed with Alzheimer's was livid and wanted to know why she was in Jail.... at first. But the routine and the constant eagle eye of the staff to keep her from "escaping" worked wonders. Good Medicine worked as well. The kind that helps cognitive processes. Within six months she was greeting family and though she didnt recognize em knew they were family of some sort.

Oh ... best of luck to you. I remember going through that with my mother. It's a hard thing to go through. I hope you find a place quickly. I used to work at a nursing home, not for long though, I went into Assistant Home Living. I love the older folks, even the ornery ones.

Thanks for the hugs.

It is pretty wild how vastly different each care facility is. Crazy. We found one that is really close, had high functioning old folks so my dad has people to talk to, but was still a lock down (which we need), and has big enough rooms that we can cram in a bunch of books for him, and is just barely what we can afford.

Whew.

The people from this place will come and interview my dad on Friday, see if they think he will work (depends on how ornery/probablematic he is as they will not take anyone too disruptive). Luckily the guy that runs the place fits the type of person that my dad is most likely to look at favorably (nerd in a suit), so chances are high that it will be OK. :fl

Luckily this place wasn't super booked/backlogged and they just had two beds "free up" (depressing aint it) so we shouldn't have too long to wait... But will know on Friday for sure what the timeline is.

It was at first super hard for my mom to realize that her hopes of the future were fantasy (that my dad will suddenly grow his brain back and go back to work). But once I kept pointing out facts, and repeating the facts, it was finally clear to her that fantasy is not reality...what we have is what we have, he is NOT going to get better, and he is clearly getting worse...

It helped that two of his long time friends agreed with me, and were able to tell my mom that at this point it was very clear that he could not get better, and he can no longer work.

Anyway.... Blah....
