The Old Folks Home

My mom still has her rotary phone in her house.

And for what it's worth in 2009 I was in the market for a new car. I wanted relatively few things: good gas mileage, 4 or all wheel drive, stick shift, 2 door, hand crank windows.

It was not fun shopping for that car.

I ended up with a Suzuki - 4 doors and auto windows, but it had the rest of what I was looking for. I don't drive automatics and every time I think of having to get a new car I get a mild panic attack over the transmission. I will likely have to upgrade to a jeep to keep the stick when I need my next car. BF has an auto tranny truck - hate driving it. I feel like I'm driving a land yacht, and every time I brake I get "where's the clutch?" panic. I don't feel like I'm driving with an auto transmission - more likely to fall asleep/not pay attention, at least for me.
My 2005 civic has a five speed manual transmission and not cruise control. It does have air conditioning though.

I know that some of the performance cars have manual transmissions. Ford Focus has a little three cylinder car that only comes with a stick shift.

It is not a truck though!

SCG I wouldn't really panic about the standard transmission when trying to buy a new car. Most cars still offer the option for standard. You might have to order the car because most people want automatic transmissions but if you are in a market where standards are desired, the dealers probably will have a few on the lot. I would figure out what type of car you want then call around and see if anyone has a standard on the lot to try the test drive on.

Just sharing a photo of my girl healing well after the bumble foot surgery.

It's looking good.

I had to put to rest an old friend yesterday. She just wasn't doing well and it was her time. It's never easy but this has been the toughest one in my life. Perhaps because I'm getting older and beginning to realize that my time is coming as well. Normally I take care of it myself but this time I did the vet visit route and I'll never do that again. ever. I'm a little better today, but still tear up when I think about her (like now, typing this). She was probably the best dog I've ever had and such a sweetie. I have my LGD Mel to keep me company, but he misses her too. I'll look to get him (and I) another companion after the move and I get settled. Sorry guys, was gonna keep my pain to myself. Thanks all for the well wishes without knowing why. Mystie greeting Mel the day he arrived home. Mystie wanting to be with me while my son hugs on Mel She will be greatly missed.
I'm so sorry for your loss.Your furbaby was beautiful :) It's never easy, bc our dogs are family. My 16 1/2 yr old Maggie went to the Bridge last month. She came to us when she was just 9 weeks old.She gave us 4 beautiful litters before I retired her, and she was a very good, but spoiled rotten, little girl:) I miss her and all my other furbabies that have gone over the Bridge throughout the years. You never forget them. This is Maggie.

@superchemicalgirl have your goats ever gotten a cut between their toes?

Feta Face got one, and it looks OK, not hot. But because of where it is located, she wants to put zero weight on it. As soon as any weight goes on the foot the scab pops open.

I feel SUPER bad for her...but she isn't crying.

I would guess I should try to contain her so there is less walking needed, keep checking for heat, and guess it might take a week?

Except that I am not sure how to contain her better ... :barnie

The two kids we got get the does night pen since we have found NOTHING else that keeps the little buggers in.

I could write a book on our fencing woes.... Needless to say there have been ISSUES.

Glory to God we can keep them all contained at night, but during the day we have been letting the does run free.

-sigh-

I am almost tempted to duct tape her toes together... But I am guessing that might be really bad for some reason I can't think of.

Still can't get a vet... I have been calling. :idunno

Yeah, yeah...keep working on the fences...... Any other thoughts?
Could you clean the area, apply some Neosporin to it, then maybe put a gauze pad there,& tape it up? Being an active goat, and the fact that goats will eat just about anything,it might not stay on her,but it might also be worth a try so it doesn't get infected.I've had pygmy goats in the past, but never had to fix a wound. My roo gave my bantam hen a dime-sized hole about a quarter inch deep on her back about a month ago. I could see her little spine. She's not just a chicken-She's my very spoiled pet, and I was really worried about that wound. I rushed her inside and washed off as much blood and dirt as I could.I had a bunch if saline flushes from my lost fight with a black widow spider that put me on a Picc-line for 2weeks,so I flushed her wound out, then flushed it again with hydrogen peroxide, then again with the saline. I applied a big glob of Neosporin in it,then gauze patched the wound and wrapped her in wide gauze. I had to change the dressing every day, but she started healing really fast, and she's fine now. I had no clue what I was doing, but felt I had to try to help her with whatever little stuff I had here. Now she's no longer near Frizzle. I gave her her own pen to sleep in every night, and once I let the others out to free range every morning, she gets the coop all to herself.I can't let her free range, bc she's too curious and will end up in another State if I'd let her out.Lol

Did you grow that Alaskan?

Must be all that good Moose manure you have up there.

Didn't grow that... It is hard for me to imagine a 52 pound rutabaga tasting good....

I did however get one first place and three second place ribbons for stuff I made. :ya (just at the local fair, not the Alaska one)
I'm with you about what that monster would taste like :) Congrats on your ribbons. Going to see if you showed us some pix :) And if you didnt, why not? I,for one,am nosey and want to see :)
