The Old Folks Home

@chickadoodles I use something similar to that spinosad, probably same stuff, bonide thuricide usually. Couldn't find it this yr so I bought something else from TSC, it didn't explain it like the bonide brand but it was also used thuricide, a bacteria that disrupts the digestive system of cabbage luper worm and others and is safe to harvest next day. Good stuff and safe for honey bees. I use it on cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli.
Spinosad is a particular toxin that is produced by the bacterium Saccharopolyspora spinosa. Thuricide is one name for a product containing another bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis, specifically the Kurstaki strain. Bt turns up under a bunch of different product names, mostly as a killer for butterfly and moth larvae, though the israelensis strain is popular for killing mosquito larvae (ever used mosquito dunks? That's Bti). Spinosad is used on a wide variety of insect pests, while Bt is only effective against caterpillars (or, in the case of Bti, mosquitoes)

It looks like a danjou pear

Anjou Pears– Best for Pies
anjou-pear.jpg
Anjou pears are thought to have originated in Belgium, and they are named after the Anjou region in France.
Commonly referred to by their French name, “d´ Anjou,” Anjou pears are the second-most recognizable pear variety in the United States. It’s the most abundant variety, which means you’ll find Green Anjou pears on produce stands in the U.S. nearly year round.
Their skin color is bright green, and sometimes has a soft red blush. Skin color shows only very subtle color change while ripening.

Looks like our pears too. Ours aren't ripe yet! They always take a while around here.

Looks like a whole lot more is naked than just the necks!

Your Welcome!

I have used tirchogramma wasps to control cut worm moths. I am currently using spinosad for mite and lice control.

Gardens alive had a once a month shipment program for the wasps(They do not sting and you do not see them). That worked out great too.

I also purchased green lace wing larvae to control aphids--that was 10 years ago and they are still in my yard! I have not had an aphid problem in years. Of course I do not use poison so the natural predators persist.

My college roommate started out selling chemical fertilizers. He's been doing beneficial insects for about 20 years now. He is in Oregon City, OR, though he ships anywhere in the Continental USA.

The mods can decide if this is not OK on the forum, but here is his website:

I think I have enough insect eating birds around that I've not had a big problem. Some Japanese Beetles, not real bad though. The only big hit was a hatch of red hump caterpillars on one of the 3 small blueberry plants. They are covered with bird netting (or we would get ZERO berries) so the birds couldn't get to the caterpillars. I didn't notice them until they were a good 1" long, a couple dozen of them. The poor little plant had lost half its leaves, don't know if it will recover next year. The chickens enjoyed their snack.

Mother nature has not been kind to us so far this year. First we got way too much rain then no rain at all for almost three months. My tomatoes first almost rotted then withered.....I have slowly grown to hate Texas weather.

Speaking of NNTs, my wife neglected to inform me the hatching eggs I paid for had some naked neck eggs mixed in until after I had aready received them........:rant

I'd have named him "Nekkid"- as in, "the Nekkid Truth" (which will come out). And don't you understand, JD - if she had told you that those NN's were in there, you'd have had something to say in the matter - sounds like you would have said 'no.' This way, she gets exactly what she wants, no fuss, no argument, no negotiations, no compromises. Sounds pretty familiar to me . . . . classic female manipulation tactic; you ought to be used to it by now.

ETA - come to think of it, I believe it's called "the lie of omission," and it's not just women that do it . . . . Don't suppose your wife has any political ambitions, does she?
