Spinosad is a particular toxin that is produced by the bacterium Saccharopolyspora spinosa. Thuricide is one name for a product containing another bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis, specifically the Kurstaki strain. Bt turns up under a bunch of different product names, mostly as a killer for butterfly and moth larvae, though the israelensis strain is popular for killing mosquito larvae (ever used mosquito dunks? That's Bti). Spinosad is used on a wide variety of insect pests, while Bt is only effective against caterpillars (or, in the case of Bti, mosquitoes)@chickadoodles I use something similar to that spinosad, probably same stuff, bonide thuricide usually. Couldn't find it this yr so I bought something else from TSC, it didn't explain it like the bonide brand but it was also used thuricide, a bacteria that disrupts the digestive system of cabbage luper worm and others and is safe to harvest next day. Good stuff and safe for honey bees. I use it on cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli.
