Yup, chronic wasting disease. Kinda like 'mad cow disease' in deer. Devastating, transferable, can wipe out whole herds. I believe it started in farmed deer and then transferred to wild populations in some states. In the beginning of the outbreak NY banned feeding deer. They still sell the feed and feeders at TSC and some other stores here though. Where deer congregate in large numbers, feeders, suburbs where their population is way too many, more chances of it.
None here, but they'd like to keep it that way.

That is so sad. There are some fenced land here that keep some type of hunting animals. I am not sure what kind but my dh has pointed the fencing out to me. It's likely deer.
We have many hunters here that camp in their travel trailers or campers or tents to hunt all about this area.
Some of the camps offer cabins with transport service and meals.

They keep telling us that they do not believe that Chronic Wasting is transmittable to humans. But don't eat any meat from deer that test positive, you know, just in case. Duh.....

The thing about the prions that cause the disease is that you cannot cook them out of the meat. Once infected, humans can carry the disease for 20 years before it surfaces. We recently saw an obituary and the cause of death was listed as jakob creutzfeldt disease, chronic wasting disease in humans. Scary stuff.*

@microchick cousins had the light on thew car that shown upon the trees hunting tree rats at night
but great stew
had to look I was veterinary never did human but the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
rang a bell as they bandied that about with my Mother we were Wisconsin prior to move
here in 68

naw we are more like you sit in the lawn chairs we
have two yard swings, there is my domes one for a barn, one is greenhouse
another for the coop the last is for processing chickens and summer cookouts

Sound like us for sure. Old age set in. hahhaaa
We never really wanted to process our chickens we made pets of them. The few birds I did have processed I bartered and traded for the services.
I have got to try to make a cold frame over one side of my raised bed for my seedlings to make it through the winter.

Wow that is scary stuff! I know I heard of a lady that had mad cow disease and it turned her brain into mush. Very slow and it sounded terrible! I cannot imagine.

Yeah, I think that's funny, NOT. And they tell you not to make chops out of the loin, sawed through the backbone/spine. But humans can't be affected. ..?
Kinda like the fish advisories for certain species and bodies of water, can only eat so many ounces or pounds, women of childbearing age and children they advise eat none... guess they don't care if the mercury affects men's brains. Advisories are probably wrote up by a woman who thinks men are just naturally dumb anyway... :-D :-D
