The Old Folks Home

They keep telling us that they do not believe that Chronic Wasting is transmittable to humans. But don't eat any meat from deer that test positive, you know, just in case. Duh.....

The thing about the prions that cause the disease is that you cannot cook them out of the meat. Once infected, humans can carry the disease for 20 years before it surfaces. We recently saw an obituary and the cause of death was listed as jakob creutzfeldt disease, chronic wasting disease in humans. Scary stuff.*

We call squirrels tree rats.

the ground squirrels here carry plague.... so no hunting them either....

Never developed a taste for squirrel.

I just keep remembering they are 'tree rats' and shudder at the thought.

Of course I'm not above blasting them to oblivion if they try to raid my blue birds nesting box. .17 is my weapon of choice. Add a scope, stretch out on the deck behind the railing and just wait for them to show up.

I do like rabbit though....oh wait! They carry CWD also. Gotta stick to tame bunny.

Remember when we didn't worry about what we ate. We just ate because it tasted good.

I never developed a taste for squirrel, rabbit, turtle, duck, or mountain oysters. I like eating pretty much anything else. I haven't tried bear meat, so I don't know if I like that or not.

We finally got the blocks covered, and the tv stand set up on them. Now the tv is high enough to see over the back of the sofa, when we're at our computers. The towers on each side, and top bridge are back in place, and I can finally start putting dvd's and things back into the tower cabinets. Our grandfather clock is where it needs to be, the weights back in it, and it's working. The gun cabinet is assembled. Things are looking up.

I have to admit, even with a few drawbacks, I love our new home. The kitchen amazes me every time I work in it. Anyone considering an upgrade to their kitchen should start with the sink. This place had a newer one, that is huge on one side with the soap dispenser, smaller on the other, but deeper than the average sink. It's hard to imagine that a little more depth can make such a difference, but it does. The second upgrade should be a taller faucet. Daily things, like being able to fit a tall tea pitcher under the faucet to fill it with water, filling a large tall stock pot with water, are so much easier. Before, I had to fill a smaller container with water, then pour it into the tea pitcher, or into my stock pots. While I have a dishwasher, there are things like my non-stick cookware, and several things that are either too large for the dishwasher, or small enough that they don't do well in the dishwasher, that I do by hand. It takes less time, and work when the sink, and faucet are designed to facilitate with these things.

We are waiting for our deposit on the rental home to come, so we can get all the lumber ordered for the coop. We have decided to have them load it, deliver it, and unload it here. The delivery fee is $70.00, but well worth it to us. We're using 4 x 6 x 12's for the posts, and the darned things weigh about 180 lbs. each, not to mention the rest of the lumber, so the delivery fee saves us on all the labor involved too. We have enough that we could order some of it, and get started, but don't want to pay an extra delivery fee. They said they sent it, so hopefully they really did, and we will get it soon.

Thanks for informing me about CWD. I had no idea. Leave it to idiots to mess up their food, and water sources, right?

HAhahahaaaaaaa exactly.

A few weeks ago I was in a real bad place, not sleeping much at all and so terminally tired I was stupid. I usually work the early shift at work, so I drive in in the dark. One morning I hit a skunk on the "major road" (still just one lane each way). I forgot about it (the smell dissipated) and hit the carcass again the next morning. I did this 3 days in a row before I finally remembered that there was a skunk in my tire path and to move over a bit.

I'm working the late shift tonight which should give me opportunity to bulb bomb roads on the way home.
