The Old Folks Home

Years ago my parents were big on dinner parties; we lived in a small town with small towns all around. Guests were Mr and Mrs. THen I startred working part time jobs and found Mrs C was also Dr. S --then I was completely confused which name to call her!!! Fortunately she ansered to BOTH!

In general, I'm old school, and still use Mr and Mrs. especially if the person is older than I am. Of course now that I am older with kids in school I feel VERY old to be called Mrs --------. I want to look around for my mother or my MIL!!!!

( I also answer to two names; I didn't change my name when we married but everyone assumes that I did!!)
Another thing we have in common, Arielle! I wasn't going to change my name at all when we married. I don't consider myself a libber but I had accounts, investments, property, business contacts, etc, in my name and didn't feel it would be easy or necessary to change it. Besides, I was 34 when I married for the first time and set in my ways. One other reason was because I am very close to and proud of my family and our name (which is well thought of in the area) and his name is very common and he and his family rarely see each other even though they live in the same county. I decided to hyphenate my name when our first child was born so that people could make the connection between me and the kids on paper for school, insurance, etc. Well, that has been about as hard. People will drop mine and use just his at their convenience. I answer to whatever is close!

Round two of guinea eggs hatching!! I have ten in the brooder. The last one of those hatched (with help) on Thursday. I heard an internal peep this morning just before lunch time. Now I have one out and five more pipped. All of these eggs were set at the same time..... and weren't due until tomorrow..........WTH?

I call people ma'am and sir for the most part if I don't know who they are. It freaks people out and that saddens me. I was over a fellow BYCers house - she was showing me how to can - and I said "yes, ma'am" - the whole world stopped. She thought I was mocking her.

I think it's sad, too, and I love the fact that my nephews were raised to say it and still do.

Speaking of doctor names, I’ve come across a Dr. Lawyer, a Dr. Looney, and a Dr. Ortega right next to the Taco Bell ;-).

Lesson learned today: Do not put an egg in your pocket and then hop on the ATV.

So the eggs I'm incubating for my friend (who I called ma'am during the canning incident of 2012) & where the ameracaunas lay white eggs... out of 29 eggs shipped here for incubation purposes:
1 exploded on day 2 (that's a first for me)
21 candled today (day 9) and did not develop
7 left in the incubator and of those I'm pretty sure at least 3 are blood rings, but I'm willing to give them a chance.

What an abysmal record. I'm usually a decent hatcher, even with shipped eggs, but this... ugh.

We had a Dr Love in pharmacy school. Not that funny, but a good diversion when you need one.

Great song....brings back good memories.........

Guinea Update - - - -
Seven out today (two still have shells on their bottoms, but seem healthy)
That makes the total live keets 17 so far and there are another fifteen pip-less eggs in the bator. They will stay until next Friday (five days after the hatch date.)

Quote: Yup--me too! Since getting married I have had too many things happen in life that I don't really care anymore which name I'm addressed by. For in school purposes with the little ones, Mrs M is enough of a mouthful with out adding a zillion more letters. Though some of the kids know my kids and will stumble over using the other name. Poor dears. Try Mrs M. One of the reasons I didn't want DH name was I would be a number--with 3 brothers married and FIL married twice--toooo complicated!

How awkward was that!! When my kids were in preschool, the teacher once commented on my boys nice manners. I mulled that over for years--until I subbed at the k-1 school. THere are no manners!!! My kids are the exception ( and their friends.)

I asked him once if he was born on Valentines Day. I got the stink eye.
Maybe conceived on Valentines Day!!
