The Old Folks Home

Diva is the BYC Hero of the Day.

Thank you for admitting what most of us do but would never say or type.

For being a cougar? :lau

clearly I missed something.

Please fill me in. :)

OK... so my question is how are all you folks making ANY clothing last more than 6 months?:th I find that simply astounding! I admit I do have a few T-shirts that are "serviceable" that are over a year old, but those are the Sunday go-to-meeting T-s that never (rarely) get worn because I don't go-to-meetings. I can't get a pair of jeans to last more than ~6 months... At that point they are perfectly religious (hole-y), near see through, and basically thread bare. I buy jeans in pairs (or threesomes) so I can alternate them through the washing cycle every so often (and still have the/an other pair since washing can take over a week ). With three pair, I can avoid doing laundry for almost a month! T-shirts on the other hand are pretty much one time use items as they get sweat soaked.

Of course I don't spend big $$ on clothes either... I don't buy the Carhart brand or any of the other name brands. I buy the cheap stuff as I know I'll destroy it in no time at all.

regular jeans never last. I have one son that I tease must have razorblades in his knees.

With him regular jeans might last a single week. Truly.

I really like Sierra trading post for when I have to buy new. Their sales are excellent. Carhartts and other similar brands that use thick fabric, preferably with double layer fabric on the leg fronts, last a full year even when worn almost ever day....as long as you can keep them away from battery acid.

If you watch for their sales, add a coupon on top of the sales, and then pick the items that are closeouts or seconds, then a brand new excellent pair can cost less than 20. Easily under 30.

20170811_125832.jpg Got the frame laid out and caulked for my skylight. Disregard the boards underneath, they just keep the frame off the dirt while i work. Wanted to paint and then glue the glass on, but it started raining. It will be almost 10 feet long at the end of those boards, wider than the coop.

@Kusanar, DH and I used to wear dress cargos in the office along with either dress Ts or polos. Durable as all get out and full of nice roomy pockets. We wore whatever color we liked. No camo, darn, but black, brown, khaki, blue and green. We got them from an on line company called TacticalGear.com. You can also find them at Militaryclothing.com. They are considered Tactical pants. I can speak from experience when I say they are super comfortable and durable. Plus they look nice on and very professional.

DH and I would go to medical conferences and other docs would ask him about his pants when he was in a lecture.

Some of the pants are sm, med, large, others are by waist size. Average cost was about 29.95 per pair. I still have all of mine. I save them for 'dress up'.
@penny 1960, I just told my husband the other day that I needed to face reality and go through the closet and get rid of all my size 6 pants. I will never be a size 6 again. I'm forever stuck in size 8 land.

I swear our body shape changes as we age. I'm a shorty also, 5'2" probably around 135. I'm on a diet now. Shooting for 120 pounds. The doctor once told me not to cut my calories less than 1800 calories per day. I about stroked out laughing and told him if I ate 1800 calories per day I would be gaining weight instead of loosing. I have to shoot for 1200 and hope for the best.

What is so frustrating is that I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted with out gaining weight. Now it's low carb, low fat, low sodium, low sugar. May as well go out and eat grass with the chickens.

could be but Dr. said I am great weight for my size at 130 just not higher so maybe or maybe not like me the way I am I did build back great muscle arms more than legs now he was surprised at that hauling feed sacks and bales of shavings will do that..
but also bake.. Ma use to say Laird and I would eat anything that didn't move fast enough

It is really pouring down rain out there. Hoping it gets this over with, would like a sunny day tomorrow.
Anyone noticed how everything you buy is smaller than it used to be? I got a garden lawn cart with dumping feature the other day. Of course they had none assembled to look at, comes in a box. Husband put it together today, like half the size i had in TN! And about the same price.
Food as well, you get a bag of something and it's half empty. Prices just keep going up.
