The Old Folks Home

The outhouse quilt does not have a recipient yet. It was supposed to be an "I Love Home" block of the month to use up scrap but I decided I Love Home was way too "floofy" for my taste and Amphetamine Squirrel said let's do outhouses instead in the middle and Dsqard drew them up for us... so the 3 of us are doing outhouses instead.

The good news is my giant tom in the basement is finally standing and went back out to the coop this morning. Turken 1.0 isn't doing as good - her crop is broken. She's been sick since Thursday and hasn't pooped or eaten or drank in the last 24 hours. I gave her a total of 6 mls of vegetable oil, plus 100 mg docusate and a bunch of massaging. Not helping.
How does a crop get broken? I thought it was a muscular sac?

We use 2 liter pop bottles for target practice. Milk jugs full of water are fun also.

4 to 5 inches of snow. Sigh, I'm trying to get my head wrapped around winter being just around the corner here. The weather is changing so swiftly. Last week temps were in the high 70s and this week they are in the 50s with lows in the 40s. It won't be long but at least I think they took the chance for snow showers out of the forecast which I'm sure my molting birds will appreciate.

I was looking at the extended forecast and sunset times yesterday and realized that on October 5 Daylight Savings Time ends. Deer season begins here on the 11th. No doubt about it. Winter is on the way.

A few things can go wrong:
1. Get plugged
2. Infection (usually due to #1 and rotting food stuck in it)
3. Stops working due to tumor

She passed while I was driving - thankfully. I like it when they pass on their own, and aren't suffering.

That is an improvement on the quilt for sure!

Sorry about your hen. Is the crop big and spongy? I had a cockeral that did that. He made it for a couple of years but had to be treated regularly for the crop problem

:hugs

That is a good way for them to end!

Sorry your girl didn't make it. Glad she passed peacefully.I agree. Much better that way.

Yeppers on the end of DST. I just double checked the calendar. Sunday, Nov 5th this year. It usually falls the weekend before Deer Rifle Season opens here and they have opening day set for the 11th which is a bit earlier than usual. I caught it looking at the extended forecast sunrise and sunset and realized that the time jumped from 6:03 to 5:03.

It just doesn't seem like first of November is just around the corner. We have had such a mild fall here that I got complacent and hoped it would stick around forever.

Got behind, trying to catch up, currently on page 7003 of 7018 so not too much further to catch up... But, I had to comment on this... We have a 47 inch TV hooked up to our desktop as a monitor....
