So sorry Micro, i am in the same boat. Just lost my 5th bird to it. 4 SS pullets and a Polish roo. Really rips your heart out. And these birds were mid August chicks so i will really start losing them in February. Craptastic.

I do love to cook and bake. Tonight I have a chicken in a clay baker, yukon gold potatoes and cauliflower cooking and for desert, chocolate bread pudding.

I am getting hungry! Dinner will be quarter to 6 Pacific time....

Me too!

I had one die from Mareks cancer. None have died from active mareks.

I have had them die from liver rupture and fungus. I think a couple that I did not take in form necropsy died of fungus. I have has several die of injuries.

the last two I lost were from fungus as well, all the rest were either active or tumors.

I want to grow potaotes! I will need to do they straw method though. Our soil has a lot of clay here.

you can also use leaves and grass clippings. (but not too many grass clippings)

we've grown Yukons in the past but this year our potato farmer neighbor grew them and sold us 50 lbs riight off his sorting line for $12 (he insisted we take the "big" bag)

You can do raised beds and put more soil on top to hill them up. Some people grow them in sorts of cages and do not have to dig them up.

yeah, potatoes are actually very forgiving.
