The Old Folks Home

I have enough cloth shopping bags that I need to start using them.

I didn't eat red meat for the longest time because I saw a test where they had pulled five cuts of meat from 5 separate grocery stores in central IL and ran tests on them. All were found to have therapeutic levels of antibiotics and some had therapeutic levels of hormones in them.

Truly scary. At least they are starting to rein in on the antibiotic use.

What is truly terrifying to me is the thought that sooner or Later Mother Nature is going to be hitting the reset button. She is the great equalizer.

There is a lot of winter wheat grown around us here in Missouri. Mainly around where we live there is some cropland but mostly it's cattle production due to the timber and foot hills around us.

What they did with our land was plant soy in the late spring and winter wheat in the fall. As soon as the wheat was harvested, they planted soy.

I'll ask around and see if they are doing that prior to wheat harvesting. I hope not, but what's the old saying. Don't ask the question if you don't want to know the answer?

One thing I will say about the agriculture business. Unless you have dealt with it, you have no idea what the paperwork is like. Once a year we would have to drive into Macon and visit the local USDA where they would lay a stack of papers in front of us that was about 30 pages deep and we would spend an hour with them explaining what was written on them (agricultural leagalese nonsense) and we would have fun signing here and initialing there. It was worse than buying a house.

Interesting about the wheat being sprayed with Roundup though. I just finished reading this article:

http://www.thefarmersdaughterusa.com/2015/06/asktfd-round-up-used-to-dry-down-crops.html

which lead me to this companion article:

http://www.nurselovesfarmer.com/2014/11/the-truth-about-glyphosate-and-wheat/

They are sortakinda denying it although some they don't deny do it, but here is why and why it is acceptable in given situations of short growing seasons BUT, it's harmless to human consumption.

I dunno. I sure wouldn't want a cocktail mixed out of the stuff.

micro I understand the lies and bullpucky I was in a oxygen tent 45 years ago because I did 4 dog dips in one day even though they claimed the product as safe malathion was the name... what did it do the dogs over the years ? aborted litters? shorter lives ?

Oh yeah, but it worked good! Just like painting used motor oil on animals. Did you know that malathion eventually eats its way out of metal containers? Yuck!

Hey folks, it is cold outside!
