The Old Folks Home

I didn't like windows 10 either. Our last laptop died (almost new) haven't got I repaired yet. Picked up a Chromebook, I don't know what it uses but it works great. Took some getting used to the thing though and I still haven't figured out how to copy or paste very well yet.

OS 10 has been free. When it rolled out it was almost impossible to not upgrade to it which is funny.

We will have to see what is charged for the next OS but I suspect it will be free again. Windows 10 had a major upgrade in the Fall. It was called the Fall update. Quite original.

Touch screen is very nice and being able to go into tablet mode can be helpful for using on your lap. With the touch screen, you can navigate like a phone.

hmmm ten free not now they offered it early on but I looked at it like 7 pro well so didn't bought a all in one as they call it for James it is 10 but no touch screen.. I do know how messed up the screen gets on my phone not sure I want it on my screen.. I like having a bit control on my computers think windows is invasive try google just as bad now just my humble opinion

The point was not about usefulness but about getting newer and better hardware for less money. Processor, graphics, memory, screen....are all more advanced than on the macs. It is surprising how much of a price premium Apple charges for a lower level tech.

Apple has always been about 15% more expensive but used to have good hardware too

Updates are frustrating! Windows 10 has a setting in updates to pick when it updates. You can delay updates but it is a very bad idea to not update. If you don't update the hackers can get your computer easier. Identity theft is not fun!
I'm on widows 10. I don't need or use 90% of it's "functionality"... completely wasted on me. My old system (still "working" is win 7 pro, but I bought this to replace it as IT was FUBAR as well. constant blue screens and restarts.

Hackers... ID theft... I understand, really, I remember the first real decent iteration of windows (3.0) and though by today's standards it may have been "simple", it worked as advertised and didn't require daily updates to prevent "virtual death". I swear to God,it seems like I have new updates EVERY time I turn the blessed machine on... It seems for every back door they close, they open 5 more. They fix one thing which causes 12 more issues. Can't they fix something WITHOUT breaking something else?

The software doesn't even notify me when it's about to / or starts downloading an update, which slows me down by 1/2. Then if it starts installing one, I can count on the system locking up and restarting. And when it doesn't do this immediately, it seems to wait in the shadows for the next time I power up the machine and then won't start but gives me a full screen telling me not to power down my system while updates are installed. Some are done in minutes, and some lock up and force me to restart. I already have it chosen to allow me to choose when to install updates, but that doesn't seem to matter at all. It doesn't even inform me when they are there to install... so it just goes ahead and does it.

So Gates is what, almost a trillionaire? And most other MS high stake holders are billionaires. Isn't it time for them to use their money and smarts to SIMPLIFY and DECLUTTER the software? I mean they all have more money than they can spend now... How much more do they want/need? I hear the next iteration is going to be like office and will require a subscription and monthly payments (I won't use the new office for that reason). At that point I'll stop using windows completely.

Sorry your puppy has itches to scratch SCG. Poor pup. Hope you can get it healed up and find what's causing it. Since you use a lot of wood heat (dry), could it be dry skin irritation?

Nope, the code is way too complicated now. The common phrase is "But I didn't touch THAT part of the code". Been there, done that and with stuff that was less complicated.

Money maybe, smarts? Nope, they have nothing to do with MS development anymore.

Sorry you are suffering so much. I agree, it should let YOU decide when to upgrade something and if a reboot is required. If they want to be really nice they would also tell you about how long it will take for the entire process.

So I got my quarterly Email catalog from Murray McMurray the other day and for grins and giggles clicked the link...

:barnie :barnie Before I even realized what I was doing I had added 75 birds to my cart:eek: Two collections of 25 each (brown egg layer collection x 25 and mixed <str8 run> heavies x 25 plus 5 each pullets from five other specified breeds), calculated shipping and planned for a late March delivery when all breeds/collections selected would be available... :th

Luckily, I came to my senses before pushing the order button :p I'm gonna be right in the middle of goat kidding season then... I have no coop built, nor a really good place to build one big enough for 75 birds... (~16' x 20')

I have no idea what I would do when the time came to be collecting 4 dozen+ eggs a day:idunno Not to mention the almost $400 cost... Shipping alone was over $75. What the heck am I thinking ordering 75 birds?

Saved! Came to me senses just in the nick of time!
