The Old Folks Home

Good morning everyone hope y'all have a fun filled day:cool:

I got my down coat from LL Bean, down gloves, socks, scarves, and pink silk long johns, both top, and bottoms. The long johns are perfect for sleeping in, when the house is cold.
You need a personal thermostat replacement! Shouldn't need any of that stuff in central Florida!

You wind up being the same person you were before you lost the weight... Only difference is people see you different
HOPEFULLY there is also a physical health improvement as well.

Hopefully I get the results back today, I'm guessing diabetes.
Do you have a glucose meter? If not I would love to send you the one I got for our diabetic cat 3 years ago. We had to put her down a month or so back. Comes with 50 test strips as a bonus ;)

So sorry your BF's dad is dying. Clearly surrounded by people who care deeply about him. If you have to go, that is the way to do it. Hospice at home, not a sterile hospital or nursing home room. :hugs

Hi guys,

Thank you. Just not in a good place.

BF's stepdad is actively dying. He was sent home from the hospital Monday with home hospice.
Yesterday his mom sent me a message that the hospital gown they sent him home in was filthy and that the home hospice nurse was unable to provide her with any more and did I know where she could get some.
I spent some time calling around to the medical supply stores in the area. No one sells them. Amazon has them but they'll be 2 days to get to Maine. I have BF order some. But in the interim, we need a solution.
So I leave work 90 minutes early, head to Kmart and the big and tall section. I convert 3 long shirts into gowns, 2 with ties and 1 with snaps. She had sent BF home earlier yesterday with some PJ long bottoms also to convert into shorts, so I did a pair of those. With a minute to spare after finishing, I left and took the cat to the vet. Hopefully I get the results back today, I'm guessing diabetes.
Anyway, drop those off, and discover he's also got some continence issues but doesn't want to wear diapers. I had known he was having difficulty moving around/standing and suspected he was not going to be able to put the shorts on that she had asked for so at kmart I had bought some shorts to convert as well. Spent the night converting those shorts to ones that have 3 pieces of velcro on each side that work like a diaper, so he doesn't have to step into them. Then I converted 2 pairs of his underwear to non-step-in and sewed in a reusable diaper pad to help with absorption (my own dad actually asked me to sew him something similar the christmas before he died, so I had extra, still, thankfully).
Then I did the chores, locked everyone up, then raced back to their house and back home. Slept a few hours.

And can I just complain that it has been hotter than hot for about 8 weeks, now?

:hugs

@bruceha2000 sorry to hear that you had lost your diabetic cat. Ours is going strong and still in remission at 18 years of age.

Not hearing from the doctor promply isn't always a sign that your tests are okay. DH just hear yesterday from the dermatologist that his latest biopsey came back positive for Basal Cell Carcinoma.......10 days after the biospsy. They respond by mail if the biopsy is negative. We were expecting everything was okay until...surprise! He has surgery on Monday. I feel so bad for him. He can't get through a 3 month followup without them finding a new lesion.

Sunscreen everyone Lots and lots of sunscreen and stay out of the sun during midday.

We laid out in the pasture last night for about two hours and watched the Perseid Meteor Shower. I saw three and dh saw well lots more. Going back out over the next 4 days as conditions permit.

SGC so sorry that you are going through so much right now. Hugs offered.:hugsIf your cat turns out to be diabetic and you would like to know an alternative to insulin, PM me. We have a diabetic kitty who's blood sugars were out of control. We were giving him 12 units of insulin a day and DH did some research and found a company that is making hing protein cat food for diabetic cats. Cash, our cat, has been off insulin for almost two years now and going strong. His blood sugar stays around 70 and to look at him you would never know he was diabetic. Our vet is starting to recommend the food to people with diabetic cats, especially when giving shots is not possible.
