The Old Folks Home

Change that to a great blue heron and you have my drying up pond. Darn thing keeps coming back to the all you can eat buffet of frogs and small dying fish.

I think my "guest" is a juvenile Snowy Egret. It certainly likes Tadpole and Minnow Soup! For a week or so, it was spooking every time it saw someone, but I guess it has decided we are harmless, because now we can get within 50 feet or so before it feels the need to fly away. I've seen a Green Heron out there, too, but it's still pretty skittish. A few days ago, I found a dead Largemouth Bass fingerling near the high water mark . . . no idea where that may have come from. As of July 31, we have officially had more than the average rainfall for a full year, and as the official rain gauge at the airport almost always registers so low, we suspect it is under the roof line, it's fair to say that we have had an awful lot of rain this year.
