The Old Folks Home

@superchemicalgirl SO glad things are looking up, glad family member is getting the help they need and glad Kitto is NOT diabetic.

@perchie.girl It takes a wise and very strong person to recognize the need for help and then seek it out. Many hugs to you:hugs. We may not be there with you physically, but please realize that you have so many people here on BYC, myself included that consider you a friend. We are always here with strong shoulders for you if you need somebody to just talk to.

That is why God made PM's!

@bruceha2000 Glad to hear that you tried that cat food. It is amazing how well it works. Our vet has a patient's 'mother' who is legally blind and was facing the possibility of having her beloved cat put down because it was diagnosed with diabetes and she couldn't handle going the shot route. The vet called us and asked us about the food, got the lady a bag and yep, kitty is now off insulin and doing well. Mamma is thrilled. Yes, it's pricey, but we calculated that it was almost the same as the monthly cost of insulin and syringes.

We just came up from our basement root cellar. a couple of years ago we discovered that the Idiot Child that built the house never caulked the windows or doors when he built the place. We caulked but there was water damage to the underlay strand board that he used as flooring that we had to deal with. Nothing more fun than crawling around in cobwebs and dirt, squeezing into impossibly small areas, chipping out rotted strand board and repairing the holes. Now we need to recaulk every window in the house before winter.

So much for Amish craftsmanship.:hit

@microchick glad you still able I understand this a great place but needs a new roof we
have tarps on the screen room side and the main bathroom so we decided to do this side this year BF can be a procrastinator almost our rainy season again really suck to be up there in the rain :he:oops:

Some things are looking up.

Cat doesn't have diabetes.

Family member checked into rehab today.
Having a need to go into rehab is not fun, but deciding they need to do something about their problem AND doing it is a good thing.

Glad the cat doesn't have diabetes. Guess you don't need the glucose tester. Offer stands for anyone else who does. It is a regular OneTouch tester, nothing pet related about it.

Two years ago we contacted two Amish construction businesses to give us estimates on putting an overhang on the south side of the house. It had none and as a result we were always getting a lot of driven rain against the house that was causing leaks. The first estimate the guy came out, looked around, said, yeah, I know the guy who built this house I don't think it's going to be an easy job. He finally gave us an estimate of 7,500$ which we just laughed our heads off at and had the second guys come out. They looked it over and said 1200$ They got the job, had no problems and did a great job. They hung around and put a new garage door up for us for under 1000.00$.

It all depends on who you contact. The guy we bought our property from did absolutely gorgeous cabinet work. We even saw restoration work that he did on a house in Kirksville that they were renovating to put it back to the way it was during the Victorian era. The wood work was breathtaking is all I can say but today while I was crawling around on the lumpy clay, I told DH that if Idiot Child ever showed up to say howdy the first thing I was going to say to him was, If we knew then what we know now you wouldn't have gotten nearly as much money out of us for the house! DH said, the reaction would be that he would just find that funny and have a good laugh. DH was probably right.\

Been trying to pry mamma hen Betty and her 5 chicks out of the grow out pen so Blackberry and her chicks when they hatch can move in. Betty's babies are 4 weeks old now but Betty is stuck like glue to them. I open the door to the pen and she comes flying out, drives off all the small roosters and hens and then instead of leading her babies out, she goes back in and invites some of the older roosters in to join them.

Guess my only solution is to bodily toss them in the coop and let them deal.

@CapricornFarm. Picked a big warty red squash tonight along with three field pumpkins. Bet the squash weighed a good 15 pounds.
