The Old Folks Home

We are going to be in the 40's next week! Can't wait. My DH says, that will be sweater weather after what we've been through. Minus, and single digit temps. Cold! My chickens don't seem to mind the teens so much, but when it is only 3 degrees, or -8 .. whew..they are pretty much staying in the coop.
The worst day for us was 33 degrees with a real feel of 21.

Brrrr..We are such sissies here.

Yeah saw -2 on the way to work (warmer than Monday if you can believe it). We are only supposed to get to 30 next week (maybe). Is spring soon?

This morning is supposed to be the last of the overnight below-freezing temperatures for a while.... Well, as far as the week-ahead forecasts, anyway. We are reaching the high 40s and even low 50s during the day at last.

I like Winter. Always have. Far better than Summer, anyway. But come ON - stop freezing all the hoses and waterers! Gah! I'm OLD and fighting frozen hoses is a real bear!

Linda, at least you can count on the hoses thawing during the day. I have to get all the water out of my hose every day and hang it up. I can't even do watering slow. If I let water sit in the hose too long without flowing water, they will freeze even during the day. I have had them freeze up on me when I have taken a 30 minute break in running water through the hose. I have to say I HATE winter in Utah. Give me dealing with over 100 degrees in the summer in southern AZ any day. I never had to scrape the "poopsicles" off the ground from the horses or scrape frozen urine out of the stalls there. Here, it is an every day occurance. OK done griping for now

Speaking about Poopsicles, I collected a 50 Gram sample to drop off for a fecal exam. I collected in the evening to avoid poopscicles....

The report was good! No worms but a small amount of Coci. The hens show no symptoms so I am not going to treat them. I gave them a two day course of Ivermectin last week and since there are a lot of posts saying that Ivermectin did not work anymore, I wanted to see if it worked or not.

It seems to work for me! The test cost me $10.50. Money well spent.

Woo-Hoo! We had snow today. If only it had been a few degrees colder and had snowed all day! I enjoyed it while it lasted.

Very Pretty! I hate that I didn't get any pics of my woods and creek in the snow (I live near Stumpy) but it is too late now. I watched it snow all day at work but didn't have my camera. The snow lasted for several hours and we got about an inch in places, but as soon as it stopped, it was gone in an hour. That's Alabama for you.............
