The Old Folks Home

Quote: Knobby - Make sure to read the book and KNOW (don't guess) what you can and cannot eat. One slip, and you will sabotage the whole thing. For example, carrots have too much natural sugar. Most people would think they could eat all the carrots they wanted. Also, the fruit is best left for after you have gotten into Ketosis (burning stored carbs) but is a real sweet treat to have on a special occasion. Berries are the only fruit that is not full of too many natural sugars/carbs and can be eaten in small amounts. Once you are used to no sugar, berries taste like syrup! I love the Adkins diet because I can eat a big meal occasionally for the comfort factor and as long as I keep to protein, I'm not cheating! I can order Sirloin steak, broccoli, and side salad (no potato or roll) and I can chow down guilt free! Can't do that everyday, but occasionally, it won't hurt.

Have you tried that, Arielle?

While I was in Wisher's area yesterday, I stopped by her house and had a wonderful visit. Her boys are so nice and well-behaved and I got to meet Paisley! What a sweet little dog. She was worth it, Wisher. I learned that I am third in a line of free dog-sitters. Of course we had to go out and enjoy the flock for a while, too.

Standard american diet is 300 carbs a day-- if you swap out the breads and high starch for a while your body can heal and behave the way it should. Corn, peas beans, carrots and others are high carb foods; swap out those for salad greens, cukes, snow peas, scallions, and many more. Making use of the remarkable foods available fresh in our markets today. Wisher-- nice meals!! I love having fresh eggs for breakfast; I like beef tips too.

Wisher is right-- very important to follow the rules to get the benefits of low carb eating. Initially you need to eat very low carb for 14 days. You should see a good night sleep by then. Many lcs book out there. Dr Eades has Protein Power; and many others. If I'm not here on BYC I'm on a lc site for support in my journey in a high carb world.

shhhhh . . . .. .http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=236482

THis is a quick intro to the foods but I didn't see instructions, willl look again. This it Adkins-- if you back up one level you will find a slew of other LC ways of eating.

I prefer the less sweet sweets of low carb eating--I had pumpkin cheesecake and tiramisu at the CHristmas dinners here at home-- my kids dig in!

And I find fun recipes like cake in a cup!! A one serving indulgence.

You should try individual fruit crisps...

Made chili and sweet cornbread for dinner - it's that kinda weather to have chili and curl up in front of the fire. Tonight it's going to be 8, and that's the warmest projected low for the next week. Negative 15 on Wednesday. Gotta get that door on the goat house.
