Hehehehe. Two of the "Milkies" (cross from a white silkie hen and a BCM rooster) re-gifted to me by an employee at my favorite feed store because she was given them but wasn't into brooding chicks right then, went broody together in my grow-out coop. They are the reason that grow out coop wasn't ready one of the opportune times for me to put Beth and Punkin outside.
ANYway, they hatched two chicks this morning. So now there are six new hatchlings in my flock! Grace's four are doing well, but I may have to keep a close eye on the Milkie moms; it's their very first time. I had to crawl in mucky, icy snow melt to get into their small coop and put everybody back up into the coop portion. They were in the bottom "pen" section; I think the chicks fell there and the mommas went down to try to bring them back upstairs.
There is now a feeder and waterer in the upstairs for the new family and I have closed the pen door.
I have also started a load of laundry... Two falls yesterday and crawling on my knees today have thrashed my comfiest three pairs of pants and two sweatshirts.
What we won't do for our flock!
