Cute, but maybe the truth.

I posted this on the incubator thread but would like your opinions. Today is day 22/23, 1 of 6 hatched yesterday a.m. without issue. The remaining 5 have no pips, movement seems to have stopped, and the chirping I could hear before has stopped. My question is how long do I wait till I give up on them. Or is there a good way to help...how and when?
Thanks

You can also float the eggs in warm water if they are too dark to candle. If the chicks are alive you will see small movements in the water.

Get a push pin, wash\serialize it and put a hole in the top of the big end on the remaining eggs.

You can candle before to see if you see any beaks moving inside the eggs.

One thing to look into is Carbon Dioxide poisoning. The Vents need to be completely open and there needs to be no dead air around the incubator towards the end of the hatch.

Also, make sure the humidity did not drop and if so, add water to the channels.

Sometimes it takes longer - Marans are notorious for late hatching.

I hope at least one more hatches for you! IF not, find a friend or two for the one that hatched.

Insanity-- I open a hole in the aircell after candling. Chirpers can be helped or if internally pipped I will help. Otherwise, try, try again. I need to go do an eggtopsy on the few that didn't hatch myself and see if I can figure out what happened. Pete55 has wonderful guides-- you can find him in the parrot section-- sorry I can't find the link at the moment.

THe bombings in Boston is the only news coverage here --my heart goes out to all the families of the injured; many benefits to having a number of major hospitals a stones throw from each other. I do beleive Massachusetts has some of the best hospitals in the world. My BIL made it home safely. Got email from SIL with that update. He was held along with many others as he was on the scene with his press pass. He is one of the official photographers for the Boston Marathon. Several therapy dogs, 4, have been brought in from Conneticut to help people. As the ICU nurse said . . . nothing can prepare you for what you see, but the training keeps everyone functioning well. THe staff at Tufts had the ER cleared of current patients in 10 minutes. AND got 4 operating rooms staffed very quickly. Apparently that the blasts happened at shift change really increased the number of staffing personell available to help. ANd this was only at Tufts.

A totally senseless act of violence. . . . .Sorry I needed to rant and let it out . . .

Arielle, I am there with you. Spent many days tooling around "Beantown". Great memories of taking the "T" into south station with my friends and walking around Faneuil Hall. The news update just said they have "solid leads" on who did this. I have no question that they will be found and brought to justice. Boston and the country will recover, with scars for sure but recover we will.

You are right. Recover we will.

Too sad, thoughts and prayers going out to them for sure.
