It was only about 10 minutes; she hadn't been ridden in about 3 years, and I hadn't been on a horse in about 6 years, so neither of us was up for much. But when I asked, she complied, so I couldn't be more pleased.

Yesterday, John got the railroad tie foundation for the new coop done. There is heavy-duty, stucco-type, chicken wire buried under the ties and out flat like an apron completely around the foundation. That rain two days ago, well, three now, wet the hard soil enough for easier digging so he didn't kill himself seating the ties perfectly level. Those suckers are incredibly heavy. I get tired just watching him work.

i got the job of shoveling dirt over the wire to bury it. Well, some of it. I am also good at holding the far end of the tape measure.

Level, plumb, and square. Or, as John the contractor says, "Perfect is close enough."

I've know Latte for about 5 years. She spent a couple of years as a lesson pony before being sidelined by EPM and then a vague, persistent hind-end lameness. She's about 8 -9 years old. Knowing her history as well as I did, I was pretty sure that if I could get us both sound enough for riding, she'd be a reasonably safe mount for an old lady like me. I've been doing a little lunge line work with her for the last few weeks to get her into a "listening" frame of mind, but I was still a bit surprised at how well she's listening.
