The Old Folks Home

Look at those breast feathers! You got all dark eggs from me, right? If I remember that correctly, her mom was a BCM and her dad must have been my EE roo named Darty. I'll be dang if she doesen't look like she has some laced Wyandotte in her. She's a pretty bird and I'm not surprised she is a sweety. Bad tempered birds don't get to live here long enough to reproduce. Well, except for when they are old and grumpy like Coco and Gracie. I would love to see her egg color, do you know what it is or have a pic? I bet it is light olive.
I will find out for you.

I really like her partridge or Crele pattern and Dark eyes. Quite striking.

sorry to scare y'all

did you get an epstein barr virus titre SCG?

Wisher that is one gorgeous chick. I'll get some pictures of the other girl I kept from you. The boys were delicious.

The PA said it would be negative because my symptoms started Saturday and the tests don't generally come back positive until after the first week. She said I could come back next week if I was still having symptoms and the throat culture came back negative, but at that point, it will most likely be mono, and the test won't tell me anything and the darn thing will still be untreatable.

it will help with garnering sympathy though

How many of the boys did you put in the pot? Were they big enough, or are you still wanting a larger carcass? I know you had one big boy in that bunch but I don't think it was one of mine. I know you gave some to the goat man, as well. How did they turn out?

I put all of the boys to Camp Kenmore from your hatching. Most of them were roos including the eggs from ebay. My hatches usually turn out like that - 80% boys or girls, never 50-50. I gave 4 girls to goatman and they got eaten by a coyote a few weeks later. I think only 2 were yours, the rest were from ebay. The carcasses were very nice and about the size I expect for a regular (ie non-meat bird) chicken. The large roo was 6.5 lbs, dressed, and I think he was a Jersey Giant cross from ebay, but I'm not certain, he could have been from your flock. The Cornish was 5.5 lbs, and the ones I know were yours were about 4.5 lbs and the rare breed banties were about a pound each. I ended up with a lot of meat and I really appreciate your contributions to my freezer.

I have kept some cornish roosters for some experiments next year, maybe. I still have Thriller (showgirl) and a large EE from Dsqard's flock. I need to at least get rid of Thriller. That's a terrible game of sperm roulette for me with him in the mix. Considering my almost 2 year old female showgirl doesn't lay eggs I'm just going to cut my losses on that experiment... the game roosters are much more adept at getting in the coop at night without my assistance. However, the girls fly out of the run each day and are roosting in trees each night. I have to convince them to go into the coop, along with the turkeys. However, the roosters were absolutely insane when trying to FrontLine them. It was like they were on PCP. One of them got hurt during it (I felt his leg snap) and he's limping now, so if that doesn't get better soon he'll also be in the freezer.

The nubians are the best milkers for taste and butterfat but they are loud. Obnoxiously loud. And then some.

I don't have any experience with Saanens.

I do have a LaMancha, and I adore her. She's sweet and quietish and I love the little elf-ears. I am keeping the nubian doeling I have plus the LaMancha, but I think I am going to go more towards LaMancha than Nubian, unless I can't stand the milk taste.

Just got back from urgent care and the PA was really impressed with the mess that is my throat and mouth. I have red dots, bruising and sores all over. The rapid strep test came back negative, which shocked her, so she stuck me on antibiotics, anyway, and did a follow up culture to confirm or rule out another group of strep. If that comes back negative, her diagnosis would be viral mono based upon what my mouth looked like. How lovely for me.

Oh you poor thing! I have had mono once and strep several times. UGH! AWFUL! Hope you feel better soon.

So out of all the eggs I sent you, there were only three pullets? The two goatman lost and the one you have? That's terrible! I guess we will have to try again........

I did not get many females out of that hatch. Must be incubator temp or something. I find I mostly hatch girls in the winter and boys in the spring/summer. I do think there was one more girl but I'm not certain. I have 2 all white ones, one of which I think is yours, and one mostly black one that is also a contender from your hatch.

I'll get pictures at some point in the hopefully near future.

Yes, I believe they where all destroyed.
The last I heard of it was that the sentence had been set and was final but I wasn't sure when it was happening.
All your help was joined in with everything and we managed to get the people to hold of the first sentence. Then we manged to get them retested, but when they retested more Salmonella was found so they just decided to destroy them
