The Old Folks Home

Welcome to BYC. I have friends in the Hyden and Hazard area. I have spent some time up there and I love the area.
That is a few counties east of me. We have drove thru there a few times. That is in the heart of the mountains.I love
Ky. can't imagine being anywhere else.

That was me, transporting 3 MW hens - adult sisters to my MW Melissa & Sarge - from friends' flock about five miles from my home. The unnamed hens were getting too aggressive in their flock of chickens, so they are now new wives for Sarge. Maybe Nigel Narraganset will appreciate their addition, too.

They had been boxed in cardboard wine cases really too small for them. One escaped right away and another got her head out before I got up my driveway.

The first night was NOISY here. The new girls hooted "Where are you?" calls because they didn't know where "their" chicken flock mates were, my geese harassed them mercilessly, and there was a whole lot more space for them to roam. I only feed in the coop but these girls wouldn't go into it.

Today they are happily dust bathing under Sarge's watchful eyes. They also think the "hitching post" roost is a wonderful thing.

Neato Linda! I have been wanting Midget Whites, tried hatching some shipped eggs with zero success. Someone in state has Beltsville Small that I might get a pair or trio of, I can't find anyone where with MWs.

My new Ameraucana boy crowed today :) Guess he's feeling better. He was inside the coop, so we almost missed it, it was pretty muffled, but each crow was a bit louder.

Two bouts, no lasting effects.  My friend?  She got it when they were on a roadtrip from California to Texas, to Florida and then home to Wisconsin.  Hit her between Cali and Texas.  She didn't seek help until the pain got so bad she couldn't stand it in Florida.  Lost touch with her a year or two ago but last I heard it involved a morphine pump in her back.

Hubby woke up with a painful neck on Christmas morning two years ago.  One look and we were on our way to the ER.  Got him on drugs asap and now he only deals with an occasional burning.

Oh, BTW me?  Had a great dr for the first bout and she put me on a massive protocol right away and I had no residual side effects.  Second bout I had  gotten the vaccine and was already under the care of my fantastic oncologist so no problems.

Moral of the story???  Don't delay getting treatment and even if you've had shingles already, GET THE SHOT!

Try the L-Lysine for the burning. It sure has helped mine. L-Lysine is an amino acid.

Hello, all! It's spring - Spring Break, even. Woke up to ice on the windshield and the boys' impromptu camping adventure ended sometime during the night with all coming inside to get warm.

We have plans for a campout on the river later in the week, but the forecast calls for cold nights and rain......

Dang it-- the cold has moved back in again, Cape Cod is expecting 10 inches of snow-- hoping the forecast is right and we only get 1-3 inches. They are warning the storm numbers could change.
