Look at the crest feathers. When they are just-hatched chicks, the crests of the hens tend to be round, and set further forward' those of the roo's are oval and run down the back of the neck a little ways. As the birds get older, the Polish roo's wind up with long, pointed feathers in their crests - think dreadlocks. The hens' "do's" are rounded (more like a 'fro) with shorter, blunt-ended feathers.I also have a male black copper Marans, a male wheaten Marans, 2 silkies, and 2 polish.
