The Old Folks Home

And Ron, where would interested parties get the pintas?

@PetRock
@ronott1

We have others working on them. I will have a pen set up in January for mine.

I will work on pictures and such for the Arkansas Blues(they lay a lot of eggs too) and the Pita Pintas either today or on the Veterans day holiday.

I am busy catching up today since I had to visit inlaws yesterday. I was co commiserating with Alaskan yesterday....

Nothing to do with anything anyone's talking about... But I love poop boards, why did I go so long with out them?

Post pictures of your set up! Do you put pans on the boards or scrape them each morning?

hmm thanks maybe I am overthinking I want astrolorp and americana maybe they be enough of production layers to work

Australorps are not as good of layers as one would think. Everyone focuses on the record laying hen that laid an egg a day for a year. She was not the norm for them.

Good ones will lay nicely for a couple of years longer than most hatchery breeds though.

If you are thinking about breeder or show quality(real ameraucana) and not what the hatcheries call ameraucana, then you will be sadly disappointed in them as layers.

Hatcheries really sells EEs. They are nice and do lay fairly well but the eggs are usually green and not blue. Many of them will lay brown too.

I really dont care overly about the egg color I just want them to be delicious lol no I'm not looking for anything show quality, just a lil backyard flock that gives me eggs and will fill my familys bellys with meat, and on the vanity side I would like visually appealing chickens :) but hey I wouldnt be mad at a ugly brown hen who gave me lotsa eggs and was a plump juicy meal :) so far have java/salmon faverollie/barred rock crosses, and wyndotte/americana/maybe polish crosses

thanks so much guys :) I've spent couple years research n loooking up stuff but charts can only say so much
My best layers are:

Arkansas Blues
Pita Pintas
Golden comets
My Crested Cream Legbar X Crele Penedesenca Olive Eggers

The Cackle Australorps are very good layers
The Hupp Blue genetics australorps are great eye candy but not good layers.

Penedesencas are above average dark egg layers; much better than marans and have good feed conversion. They do not care for me but I have never been attacked by one. They do think I am going to kill them when they are little though. I really like their character.

That is my personal experience so not a chart or scientific.

Don't know why I thought you just hatched and then sold the chicks. Didn't realize you were in on the breeding, too.

Sorry about the inlaws... we'll all be suffering, soon (Thanksgiving).
