The Old Folks Home

Chickisoup, our temps are going to do a nose dive starting Monday - plus actual snow and such. Today started with icy rain and sleet (if there is a difference) and then just rain and of course temps heading down. At least we have had practically no snow all through December - which is rare.

Deb, I would never serve someone something they're not comfortable eating (except for lamb to my sister - she loves it when she's unaware of what she's eating. Even her boyfriend makes it for her without her knowledge sometimes).

Thanks, I know that. It was just a way of illustrating that I will eat anything put in front of me.... I dont make faces or go ewww.... though I might if an eyeball floated up.... But I would deftly avoid the bits I couldnt eat. and say Oh No thankyou I am full....

I have seen my mom come into the house and say "Eeww what smells.... " and been mortified.... She has done it to me too.

Yeah, I know. The news said that just about everyone is getting hit by Polar Vortex Part Deux. The 4" or so we are supposed to get tonight will actually be a blessing because it will add to what we already have on the ground to help insulate the ground, keep the septic from freezing up (that's always a good time) and protect the well pipes. Feel sorry for the town folks. This will almost guarantee the water mains will freeze up again this year before spring. The drip order has already has been issued for city to our north. That never happens in January.

I hear you. I need to just unplug the dang thing and force the kids to learn how to use the stove. It's a lot harder for quick "junk food" they might actually eat better too. Maybe.

and glad to hear the horse is back up to snuff too.
unfortunately, they will probably just start eating cereal, and only cereal.

All the cold in the world must still be down south.

I still haven't hit zero F. I don't even think I have hit 10F!

No problem!

With the fagor, there is a lock so it cannot open until the pressure is gone.

on pressure cooker days. Of course I am much older then you. You probably weren't born when I was hiding. I'm too fluffy(yah, that's it) to fit under a chair now. I remember when my mother took the top off and steam & stuff shot up to the ceiling. I guess my mom was pretty brave or ditzy because none of that ever scared her.

She used to broil steak for my dad and managed flames that scorched our HIGH kitchen cabinets. This happened three times in one month - the firemen always told her to spread salt and close the broiler so no air would feed the flames. IS it any wonder I have never broiled anything and never will. The last time, she told me to get grandma out of the house - it was freezing outside and grandma didn't want to go. Once I got out there, I worried that my mom stayed inside & our Java rice bird Muffy. That was another of the minor things that helped shape my personality. I won't even go into the major stuff.
My mom was the same way
Thanks for advice about slow cookers.

My son has a fancy schmancy big name expensive one - because he loves gadgets. It has a zillion touch buttons and settings and he only used it a few times and the last time it didn't get warm at all. But, you know young people they just dump stuff if it gives them any problem.
Ugh I know, I am on the keep fixin it wagon over here, but sometimes they just are made to be unfixable and probably made to break at a certain point.
