The Old Folks Home

Deb, here's the link I read about it in, haven't gone looking for the download itself.

Dualhead monitor setups, that's something I like. When I still lived at home with my parents, I had two 17" CRT monitors set up to my desktop puter, that took a lot of space... but it's so much better when you need to research and produce something at the same time, you don't need to print out something or flip between windows, you can just have everything visible all the time. Don't have that kind of a setup at home anymore, but maybe I should remedy that. I do have two TFT's sitting in storage collecting dust.

thanks Felix I will dig in further. I have enough space to load up two or three memory hog drafting programs.

Auto Cad requires a student ID to get anything from them....

Sketchup I was surprised to find my Cousin who is a Professional Engineer uses it exclusively for his company.

I like the DraftSight offer but Didgital Designs doesnt offer a picture of the user interface. Digital Designs is a local company here that used to be the premier Autocad dealer. Then they went over to Solid Works... DraftSight is a solid works product... So that peeks my interest for a give it a try.

My PC is a home built number:

AMD FX6300 6 core processor - black edition
16GB RAM
6 USB 3.0 ports
256GB SSD drive
2x 1TB 3.5" drives
2 x 2TB 3.5 drives - mirrored
27" 1080p LED TV for main monitor
21" LCD monitor in portrait position.
Win7

It works pretty well. The "windows experience" score is 6.3.

My laptop is an Acer Netbook with 8GB RAM and SSD but held together with packing tape. It is 32 bit so I will be needing an new lappy.

I know next to nothing technically about computers but I am known as the resident geek in our family. Pc's, phones, tv's it's all on me for advice. LOL Most of the time, it's me just winging it.
i built just about every pc we have owned but these days the best buy and amazon specials are cheaper than I can makee

Speaking of geeks.
I initially liked just using computers but a buddy of mine dragged me kicking and screaming into dissecting every part of the machine, software and registry.

I later became a technical trainer and automation engineer. Our facility started with 4 robotics instructors, 2 PLC (programmable logic controller) instructors and a relay logic/VFD instructor. Eventually they were all replaced by 1 - me.
I worked all 3 shifts teaching programming of welding, sealing, painting, laser and material handling robots, integration of robotics with all the other systems including projection and spot welding, barcode reading and writing and vision systems including a 3 D vision system that robotically installed windshields just using a bit of math based on the point in space of 4 corners - 2 on the front of the roof and one each on the A pillars. Between cameras and induction sensors we could identify every part of the vehicle and its location in relation to the others within half a mm. It would also show if there were a hole missing in the vehicle before it became a problem in the assembly process. We had the first laser robot in North America. Blah, blah, blah, I won't go on. BOORING!!!
boring to some, me? fascinating!!!
