The Old Folks Home

I've had an interesting day. A friend's mare foaled . . . . sorry, not a draft; a registered Appaloosa.

Oh I love all horses Apaloosas have a warm spot in my heart. I got to ride a mare named Baby Doll named because of her blanket.... She was sixteen hands and I learned to swing up bareback on her... Had to do it like a Native American...

What color is the momma and the baby?

Quote: Momma is supposedly a fewspot, possibly also a varnish roan - almost completely white. The filly is a lineback buckskin (some call that a "dunskin") with a big spotty blanket. This mare had a buckskin a couple of years ago, that had all the appy characteristics but no spots. During the last few months, the now 3-year-old has been developing white hairs in a lot of areas - probably varnish; hard to know how this filly will finish out.

Puddin we bought two of the 1588's and the ones we got were from the incubatorwarehouse.com and the first one we paid about 150. it came with a turner, the second one I got with out the turner as I have one that needed a motor replaced so I ordered the motor from the same place. They also sell the parts. Ron showed it to me and saved me a bunch of money.
I hope this helps.
Yes, incubator warehouse sells replacement parts for the styrobators. GQF also sells replacement parts for the 1588 and other incubators--wire, bottoms, tops too. They also sell new plastic inserts with water tanks if yours goes bad. There are also different tank setups for the incubators. I like the one with two little tanks in the middle and bigger ones around the outside. It is easier to get the humidity set correctly.

I love the Appaloosa..just made a comment on one I saw on t.v. today to my DH. Beautiful. Will never forget the one I saw at a show that looked like a Dalmatian dog.

Corrales -- the village I live in -- is THE horse capital of new Mexico. Each December they close off the main street and there's a parade of folks horses. It was amazing how many draft horses are here. Belgians seem to be the steed of choice and thus far I've counted only one black Percheron. While driving to art class today I found a street in Albuquerque where just about every block had either a horse feed store, tack store, equine clinic...really cool.
The next-door neighbor's mare is due to foal next month. A homozygous pinto bred to an Appaloosa.... A pintaloosa? I dunno. Cannot imagine what the coat could look like.

I must confess that I know just about zilch about Minorcas. But what was appealing was they're heat-hardy, lay large eggs, lay large eggs. What are their temperament? They lay large, but do they lay lots?
I heard about those murders in Tyrone. At first our news station was unclear what state it was in... We have a Tyrone, NM, with a population of about 10, which is what could be concluded because the news was coming over a local station. Waaaaay out in the boonies. It's kind of a gathering place for all the folks flung into the hills. Still, a sad situation no matter what state...

The snow bone doesn't lie! It has snowed all last night and all day today. Woke up to 4" of fluffy dry powder. Supposed to be snowing all weekend, too. A good weekend to hibernate.

Did anybody else get the e-mail advertisement for pre-ordering the Brinsea 100? It is a cabinet-style incubator (two trays) with automatic humidity pump that holds 96 hen eggs. And it's only $999.99!

I love good Appaloosas... ones with good conformation... Just like with any color breed. I like good conformation...

And I dont mean rat tails and spars mane... I mean good haunches well set hind legs and good shoulder for athletic movement....

The Nez Pierce had it spot on for their breeding program... much like the old time desert bred Arabs.... bred for stamina and intelligence... Many of the Nez pierce horses even had the shortened back... one less vertebrae just like Arabs.

They kicked butt on a running battle....
