The Old Folks Home

hummmmm

I think that it is you, not me.....

I can see the comment box just fine... even with the wide white line down my screen.

Nope its the site... the comment box is there I filled out a response to the bald eagle story .... and there is no submitt button...

I too looked all over. The only button at the bottom was [previous] I looked at other stories and they had [previous] and [next] at the bottom.... no [submit reply] or something similar.

Here is my comment

Lovely story... I too have a story of recovery. Racoon pulled a leg off one my guineas through the fence... All the way to the hip socket. Very little blood so I put her in their brood cage with her own food and water and lots of bedding.
By the end of the week she was eating and drinking and learning to get about on one leg. By the end of a month she was out with the flock...
No antibiotics or special treatment except protection...

YES, I am vindicated or some word like that. I told you it was YOUR fault Alaskan. I am not the sharpest crayon in the box but, I still have a lot of color left. Thank you Perchie.

I did have my glasses on and I went to the part where it says leave a comment - it filled in my user name and my email address. When I finished my comment, there was no place to hit submit - it just sat there. I panned up and down and sideways and couldn't find a submit or send thingie, so I didn't what to do . I checked back to see if it entered my comment without telling me but, nothing was there. Alaskan if you have read any of my comments which do appear and I do leave one most times, you would know I do it right. This time nada! Now my computer techiness is at stake here and I am bewildered. (bothered and bewitched also).

Found this posted by New York State Fair, when I first read it I thought it was just the state fair, nope all county ones also. I think their jumping the gun, our Delaware County fair is in August, the state is end of Aug into Sept. There has been no AI in NY. A lot of 4H kids are going to be disappointed. Many of them make a lot of $.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has issued an order banning all live fowl competitions at the Great New York State Fair and at all county fairs in New York, Commissioner of Agriculture Richard A. Ball announced today. The order is the direct result of the continuing spread of strains of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the Midwest. Current Influenza Strains are No Threat to Humans.

This is wise... because people come from all over to compete... and people come from much farther to visit... Biosecurity would be non existant... this will protect everyone.

Agreed - while the kids will be disappointed, the precaution is warranted. It's a teachable moment that can be used to help them learn about things like AI, bio-security and making decisions that can stink in the short-run for long-term benefit.

Yeah I guess your right, I really don't think there is any 'biosecurity' at all at our county fair. My older kids were in 4H and showed rabbits and vegetables, their 4H leader a farmer neighbor of ours doesn't do it anymore. The wife was thinking of starting a new group to get our younger kids and some others into it and show chickens.
