The Old Folks Home

I thought we could tell ripeness by squeezing and smelling.
Who squeezed and smelled sour?

More than are willing to admit.

I've traveled a lot of miles in 74 years and 'ain't dead yet'.

LOL..welcome..you are going to fit in quite well on this thread!

Too bad about that ol racoon though.  Hope you get em soon!
we have the girls locked up cozy tonight and hoping the idiot coon can't get the door wiggled. She's a smarty. Old duke my dear departed buff gave the good fight looked like he wounded her pretty good, but lost overall. I do miss that crazy codger. Yeah we named him for John wayne he was a proud one mean when needed but nice all around. I got 8 rows into my rug and got so steaming mad I ripped it apart rewound the yarn and went out to check my girls and gave them treats. *cherries from the tree* and it looks like they will have a apple feast again this year as our trees are over producing. They are a spoilt bunch. Good year for crops but a struggle for my birds this year. As for doing things the old way .. I even tailor my clothes, and darn my socks. Which is unheard of for my age range. I can't remember the last time I went out and had new things. Except garden seeds

Hey!!! A lot of 70 year olds are pretty darn healthy...all things considered. I'm not that old, but I hears things.  :old

Anyway... Welcome!

Ya don't have to be old to like doing things the old ways. Though when I started doing things the old way is probably considered ancient to what you consider the old ways as you are younger than my "baby girl". If that makes any sense. Someday iPods will be considered ancient hocus pocus voodoo low tech.

I'm the kind to carry a bucket and a bag, a bucket to carry what you need on Your way, fill it on your way back by picking. use the bag for extas if needed. Carry a bale twine and pocket knife. Eat what you raise don't waste, fix everything till there's no fix left. Barter, trade, help your neighbor. Feed who ever wanders in when cooking. :) even have a old corn sheller I use in the fall when my son is playing out side he is turning 3. You know just old fashioned. It's a dying thing. I get to render lard this fall as some offered it in trade for apples.

I have a daughter that just got ... ahem...hooked, on crocheting. She is loving it. She's 41 is all..and everyone is calling her granny. Well, she just sent her son..our grandson off into the military. He joined the Navy. Doing this is what is helping her with him being gone..her first out the door. She only had two boys. Here is a photo of the blanket she made for me. Love it!
Share some of your things that you have made. Would love to see. There are a few folks on her that love making quilts and other things. :)

Alaskan re: your white rooster, , what is that type of comb called? I never can figure out any of them. Love the little boy (?) in the bottom photo. He looks so bright and hopeful - guess he doesn't know he is a boy - poor thing.
