A friend of mine was making her own fly spray using vinegar, water, and Dawn dish detergent. It seemed to work as well or better than the commercial repellents, at least short term. Of course, if you use it a lot, when the horse gets caught out in the rain, it develops suds . . .

Woodsdweller I want to let you in on a secret. No one is the best parent on the planet.

All of us fumble through raising children and all of us make mistakes doing it. Best we can do is to raise responsible citizens and love them as they are growing up. Sounds like you did exactly that so that makes you a great parent in my eyes! Wish that I had known how to sew when my kids were growing up. I would have shown them how to do it too. I am making up for lost time a little, I showed DD how to make the curtains for my granddaughter's bedroom when I was up visiting back in April.

Good thing DD wasn't around when I was teaching myself how cut patterns and sew so I could teach her... She might've thought swearing was part of the process. A shame her mother (the ex) was/is such a waste of space. Yeah.. yeah.. I shoulda realized before I married her, but sewing/housekeeping/cooking wasn't as important then.
