Ok so I got my first return to laying egg from the Ladies coop today

however when I went to tuck them in tonite a rat scurried under the bedding on the floor.

I told DH "BRING ME YOUR GUN!!!"
He did so promptly, I told him to aim and I grabbed the shovel and disturbed the bedding all the way down to the wood.

That sucker ate a hole to the underside of my coop! I set a stepping stone brick on top of the hole but I don't think that will stop him for long. So it looks like I am back to bait and snap tricks

.

This makes me so angry right now since I have taken ALL food out of the coop all there is for it to eat is Chicken poop and leaves grass and straw.

Hopefully by Christmas ...The ladies will all be tucked in their beds and Not even a rat will be scurrying!

@bruceha2000 Well there you go. I don't think we need more layers at the moment though, today the fifth one came back to production too and we have a 5 egg day for the first time in ages, maybe ever. Also, perfect segue to showing off the beautiful colours. One layer got two eggs in the pic since she hasn't made up her mind about the colour yet.

Very pretty eggs V. Congrats to you both for having your chickens laying in Dec.
We got 2 eggs last night. :(

Well the chicks just arrived and I think I have 2 silkies.
Will y'all look and help me figure out what I have please?

Not silkies but cute!

Look at other feathered breeds that have less than 5 toes.

Brahma or favorelle?

Where are they from?
