The Old Folks Home

Ok here is an ice cream story....

My Grandpa Dixon was a consummate farmer and sharecropper. While they didnt have alot of money the family ate well. And the kids got new shoes every year and never went to school hungry or dirty. Apparently Grandmas fried chicken was to die for....

There was a family in the community that was not doing so well. The kids always went to school dirty and hungry. They werent farmers I dont know the details. Any way they were invited to dinner to help them out some. Grandma processed the chickens the day before.... refrigeration was in the form of an Ice Box. Ice being delivered in huge blocks. Grandma was no stranger to feeding a large crew. There were Seven in her family and often times she would be feeding the work hands which could number ten or more..... Especially during harvest.

Well the family came over and ate and ate... dad was horrified.... they would take a bite or two out of a piece of chicken and reach for another. And he could see his dad getting angrier and angrier at the waste... Three cardinal rules in dads family. Waste not Want not, No cruelty to the animals, and all animals had to work.

Grandma and Grandpa were gracious to their guests. Guests who where still eating when Grandpa Dixon announced he was going to make some ice cream.

Grandpas Hand churned Peach Ice cream was Legendary. They had fresh home grown peaches and a couple of their cows produced milk that was so high in butterfat that they only made butter out of it. Normally you limit the cream in ice cream or it will be too rich. Dad said when the ice cream was done he wouldnt let any of his family have some.

True to form the Guests dove in to the ice-cream and ate it all. By the end of the evening they thanked profusely and piled in their car for the drive home. Grandpa had a genuine smile on his face as they drove off.

A few days later the Father of the family spoke to Grandpa.... "you know it took us almost an hour to get home the other day" The drive was only 15 or 20 minutes normally. "We had to stop several times because of "upset stomachs" "
"No... Really?" grandpa said...Apparently dinner had gone straight through.... and they had fertilized the desert on their way home.

They were never invited over again.

Ice cream has to have a certain amount of butter fat to qualify. Stuff that doesn't meet the bar is called frozen dessert. Stuff that surpasses it I believe is called Premium -which means closest to a heart attack-I think.

Alaskan it's a deal

you get the mint, I get the pistachios. That's how you keep the peace, no bloodshed - why can't world leaders do that?

I had a banana sundae ice cream I believe it was Haagen Daz or however it is spelled. I really liked. I loved Tres Leches Brigidero also by HD so much, that the stores discontinued it .

They did the same thing to my old favorite Godiva Chocolate cheesecake. I loved it so much, I paid full price and had no coupons. So they cleared it out (bought as many as I could afford) and then just gone - pouf.

I think I am the kiss of death to some fantastic ice cream flavors. Kinda like a thread killer.

I went to the eye doctor (retinal specialist) this morning. My retinas are fine. He found nothing wrong, but wants me to go to my regular eye specialist in 4 months in case it's something that might be at the very beginning of developing, but too soon to detect anything yet (possibly with the implant(s)). He's also writing a letter to my primary doctor to continue to monitor me in case it was a minor TIA that, for what ever reason, was not detected at the hospital. At this point, I'm doing fine.
