The Old Folks Home

Bunny Lady, you really crack me up about Syd, especially the wind in one ear and her brains out the other.

Sounds like one of my favorite Cockers, we used to call her the "Whirling Dervish." She just never learned to walk nicely on a lead. She would grab on to anything rather than keep pace on a lead. Good thing we never tried to put a saddle on her.
She also used to make a lot of noise to punctuate her bad manners. You always heard her coming.

I can sympathize with you about the wind. The last three days they have been at 26 MPH with gusts to 39. I was out today giving the birds some chopped up cooked pork chips after I cleaned out the freezer. I think it's the dogs favorite time of the year. I boil off all the outdated mystery packages chop up the meat and divide it between birds and dogs. It was kind of lean pickings this time. I only had 2 outdated pork chops and a small glad bag that no matter how long I stared at it, I couldn't figure out what it was so into the pot it went.

The birds were in hog heaven...literally when I handed out the treat. It was then that I noticed one of my Buff O hens sitting in a corner trying to stay out of the wind. I should get a picture of her, poor baby. She is my feathered child who is really having a tough time getting through the molt. She has wing feather and head feathers, sparce hackle feathers and not much else.

My husband was taking a movie of the feeding frenzy and afterwards. I told him maybe the wind blew off her feathers. More truth than fiction to that statement. there is a wealth of shed feathers piled on the inside of the fence. It was still windy tonight but not as bad. Our first really COLD night is tonight. 21 Degrees. I'm ready for spring already.

Bunnylady maybe they like after dark practice better. lol

I feel like it went straight from summer to winter again! No fall! I kind of feel cheated I was looking forward to some mild temps.

Ughh, snow knocked down one of my runs netting, wet stuff. Didn't all last winter. Guess I get to fix it or remove it while the kids play. They been hounding me to play outside since I opened my eyes. Lots to do, little time to get there, don't even have the snow blower on the lawn tractor yet. Hopefully I get some hunting in this afternoon.

Good morning all. It was 20 degrees here this morning. No snow yet. This is actually our first brush with winter. Temperatures have been mild for November. In fact it was in the 70s last week. My poor little hen that is going through a rough molt is staying in the coop and I can't say that I blame her. I'm hoping one of the young cockerels will stay in with her and keep her warm.

Beer can, the system that gave you your snow gave us 39mph wind gusts over the last three days. It really tested my netting over the run. I'm doubting if it would survive a wet snow though.

We had our first hard freeze overnight (high 20s). Just 2 days after a record 83F. Incredibly windy here too (not as bad as your neck of the woods) but today is our first calm day. Probably another freeze tonight and then mild next week.

:frow Hey, JD!

Hope you find something suitable soon; sorry to hear about the Meniere's playing up. Does that have any sort of "triggers," like maybe, stress?

Stress and diet are the main culprits......but the lack of sleep doesn't help either. Anyway, I was terminated for going over the points limit.....and not my fault either, management would hold me over then forget to fix it. I fought it for three months and just got tired of fighting it.

On a happier note it got down to the mid 30s this morning......winter is here! It is frosty.....

@JD4570 No job is worth sacrificing your health for.

I went to a dentist once upon a time who's receptionist had Meniere's disease. It wasn't unusual to go in and find her laying on the floor behind her desk because she was too dizzy to stand up or sit at her desk. She was an excellent receptionist and her boss was understanding of her condition.

I remember once the phone rang while I was in the reception area and she was on the floor. She called out and asked me if I would be kind enough to answer the phone for her. Needless to say I did and then handed the receiver down to her. I asked her later if that meant I was now an employee?

Hang in there. You will find that perfect job where everything works for you. In the mean time take care of yourself.

SCG, there used to be a no hunting on Sunday's rule here in some counties, not ours. No Sunday rule in NY anymore. We didn't get it as bad as they were saying, about five inches of wet snow and wind. SIL posted on Fbook we got 12".. we live a mile from them, I see 2-6, mostly five Lol. Kids are in, lunch in bellies. Still have to fix run. DW will be home from work soon. I might get out in the woods by 2..
