The Old Folks Home

Went and got salt/sand from the town today (they limit you to two 5 gallon buckets a day) and had another bucket from a previous trip. That helped the top of the driveway but I will have to wait for BF to go get his 2 buckets to do the curve. UPS just got stuck in it, hauled 2 big packages up the rest of the way in their crampons, only to get to my door for me to tell them those belong to the house next door with the nice, short, flat driveway.

Now would be a good time to use Drone delivery...

SGC that driveway looks like a skating rink. I have 1.5 miles of dirt road before my house and it snows ... but it never looks like that even the stretch that is actually a stream bed... of course we dont get real snow like you do.

Look at me..I'm laughing anyway. Poor postal guys. Doing his job. Come rain....or ice!

Yeah, I just minced my way down to the mailbox, duck walking all the way. Got back to the house and told DH that we needed to start recycling the stove ash to the ice or we would never make it either out of the driveway or back into it again on Wednesday when we have to take the diabetic cat to the vet for his monthly check up. It makes the ice and snow ugly as sin but it really works.

That's what the snow banks are for.

Yep! When the banks are high it is fun doing "bumper cars" all the way down. I get some willies though when there are no snow banks...I do not have the money to recover from rolling my car down the hill.

My driveway is bad, but I have seen some driveways on the edge of the cliff where I do NOT understand how they use the drive in the winter time. Crazy scary.

As to the poor delivery folks....

Last two times the FedEx guy had to come to my house...he didn't. He stayed on the main road and called me to drive down.

That's terrible Alaskan. I have never been impressed by Fed Ex ever. I do love most of the UPS guys and after reading SCG's post , love them even more. It' s crummy job to have, they are supposed to have an empty trunk by the end of the day. As I understand it, they do not get overtime, if it runs late. So they stopped ringing door bells( mine don't work) put the package near the door and run off.

FedEx does the "drop and run" thing. Never even know he was here. We don't hear the trucks when they come through the circular drive or park out on the road. Sure hear them when they race up and back down the private road that runs up our south lot line though.

Hope to never get a temperature sensitive package from FedEX. UPS guy USUALLY puts the package inside the enclosed porch. Last delivery it was outside but he did ring the doorbell. Could be an alternate driver given the season.
