The Old Folks Home

Hi, folks! Back from our Iceland adventure.

Didn't see any Icelandic chickens...unless they were the little roasted things in the buffet line.

Our neck of the woods got a snow dump the night before we departed, so it was a treacherous icy 1.5 hour drive to ABQ airport, which normally takes 17 minutes. Hit Denver's 2-degree weather and then off to Reykjavik, Iceland, where it was a balmy 40 and rainy! Unfortunately, the extended cloud cover also hampered our viewing of the Northern Lights (the Bucket List reason we went), so we occupied ourselves with lots of museums and soaking in the thermal pools. It's a fascinating place and the people are quite friendly and speak English. Their currency -- Icelandic kronas -- feature assorted fish on all the coins.

Seafood, lamb and Viking lore abound in Iceland; Low prices for food and alcoholic beverages do not. If you travel there and want to imbibe, a good suggestion is picking up your liquor in the duty-free shop as a mixed drink will often set you back as much or more than the price of a meal.

Glad to be back home and happy to see my "girls out back" who graced the hen-sitting neighbors with eggs while we were gone.

Being a pretend Viking was fun. Being a real one would've been a hard life. They were rather brutal.

Next to this life-size whale I feel petite!

I know I'm old, and my memory isn't what it used to be, but during the summer, weren't some of you wishing for winter weather?
Nope, never, uh uh, not in a million years or for all the gold in Fort Knox! I'd much rather have 90 degrees in the shade then 10 degrees in the afternoon. IMHO it's much easier to get cool than it is to get warm. At least it is for me.

We have a Winter Storm Watch over the weekend. 1/4 to 3/4s inches of ice.

I'm a week late on catching up... *True* vacation as phone didn't work and I was cut off from USA civilization.

At least your mother shares with you. I didn't find out about my mother's mastectomy until about 15 years later when I was going for my first mammogram and queried whether there was any family history I should know about. "Well, remember when we said I pulled a muscle and my golf game would be screwed up for a couple of weeks...." Mom's side of the family is more than notorious for keeping things private. Sigh...

Prayers sent for a good outcome and soothing vibes sent your way.
