The Old Folks Home

There has got to be a way to shovel out that vent!

Clothes need to dry! Maybe you can put up clothing lines in the basement next to the furnace... it would dry everything quickly and also help with the dry air due to the furnace. (Actually....it is a giant wood stove or something, right?)

I have a low vent...for my hot water heater.

lots of shoveling.

Anyway...blows me away that you don't have a second story door. You do have a second story though...right? So... can you just start using a window?

Hung them on the shaker pegs all around my living room, for now. Luckily they're dry this morning.

How worried do I have to be about my house collapsing in all this? We are getting another foot Wednesday.

BF and I decided to give up on the east, south and west sides of the house last night. There's no where to put the snow, even if we could move it.

I am going to try to leave work early today if possible so I can assess the situation in the light and in less of a panic to try to get to the animals to make sure they're not dead.

SCG, I'm suddenly remembering why I like calling North Carolina home . . . .

I remember living in the U P and seeing several houses with doors on the 2nd story with a landing/small deck and ladders or stairs.
Yes, I'm glad that I took that job offer back in 88 and moved out of the Great White North.

SCG can you climb out from an attic and parachute down.

You must have trees surrounding your house so that the snow drops right against the house? I was thinking about it after seeing the pics everyone posted, yours included. Here I never got trees planted permanently,

they had to be moved and then it just didn't happen. We're right in the open prairie. So the wind blows the snow and it leaves an area of space around buildings, the house and the vehicles. If that's the case with being sheltered by trees vs not having trees...I'm glad I didn't get trees planted. That's an HELLo of a sight seeing all that snow through your open door.

I think I'd want to crawl back under the covers and stay there.

Been there. Odd thing is we are having a serious case of "global warming" here. Already above freezing and it's only 9 a.m. ish. Colder for a bit tomorrow then 40's by the weekend!

Last year Valentine's week was below zero daytime and our worst temps of the winter are most often on or around Feb. 14th. Had our worst week EVER on this date a few years ago so everyone usually is making sure they have enough wood, fuel, food, snow shovels and general hibernation supplies ready. Heck, I just got my new pair of Yaktraks in the mail yesterday!

So sorry SCG that you are getting clobbered

Wish I could send you my Tubbs. They have been sitting propped against the chest freezer for a month waiting to be used!

I have a ton of trees, but the issue is two-fold -

1. I'm at the top of the hill, so we get a lot of wind. Blowing/drifting until it hits the house and stops, then keeps building up.
2. Metal roof. 2 sides of the house get the crap from the roof dumped down. However, I have abandoned 3 sides of my house, so I think the issue is really #1.

I came home early from work today. Quick bite to eat, change clothes and then go out and see what I can do.
