The Old Folks Home

My first thought when the hives showed up was nerves. She had just started first grade and her mom started dating. As they became more serious there was talk of moving in together and Maddy didn't want to leave here.

@maddysmamaw Allergies are by their own nature unpredictable. I was never bothered by allergies until I turned 30. When I was tested, my back looked very much like poor little Maddy's. I was allergic to everything except dogs. Everything. Every grass, weed, tree, flower, dust...blah blah blah. I was also super sensitive to the allergy shots they gave me so after 6 months of pure you know what I was forced to quit them and treat the symptoms. Recently, within the past 5 years I discovered that I am allergic to tree nuts. Found that out the hard way by eating a bowl of pistachio nuts and spending the next two days wishing I would just die and get it over with. I was so miserable. Even coconut oil and palm kernel oil can set my digestive tract off in ways that defy description. Then two years ago I developed a severe reaction to a wasp sting. That one sent me over the line. I now carry an epipen wherever I go.

People can be allergic to allergy medicine. I've taken care of patients who are allergic to Benedryl. And no big secret that children can be allergic to antibiotics as can adults.

I think you are doing the right thing by having her tested and if it is any consolation, yes, children often outgrow allergies. Until they do they can make life very interesting. I'm sure her allergist will get to the bottom of what caused her to break out in hives. With the problems that little sweetie has had to deal with, she doesn't need any more. Unfortunately, peanut butter aka peanuts are much harder to avoid then catfish are and elicit a much more violent response, aka hives. I hope she is allergic to catfish. No matter how good they are, fried to a golden brown, kids and peanut butter just go together.

Well I wish they'd hurry up and figure it out. It's been months now and all the tests and medicines are starting to get her down. Spring needs to get here soon so we can get out in the garden and get her mind off of all this. We do have ducklings in the incubator that are due to hatch this weekend. She's planning a sleepover with her cousin, Draven, and his sisters. (Who also call me Mamaw)

and for Maddy, too! Have Faith and wait. They will sort it out.

Fun weather here. Started saving eggs for hatching last week just as the temps went from warm to low single digits every morning, luckily only had a few froze so far.
Today we have a blizzard and all roads closed in all counties around us. I was still going to go to work but DW threw a fit cause they were giving out tickets. I'm pretty sure I could have avoided the troopers, they wouldn't have been on the majority of the roads I have to travel anyway. Ohh well....had the day off thanks to mother nature. 2-3" a hr, 30-40mph winds, nothing big. Think we got about 30" but hard to tell with the drifts, I have a old two row corn planter in our front yard and it disappeared. Our vehicles that I already cleaned off once have giant snow mounds on them again.
Snow blowed our 100yrd long driveway twice. Was going to wait till morning to do it again but somebody started plowing the end of our driveway, no clue who. I was going to let him continue but DW said I better get down there and let the idiot know he is at the wrong place. Headed out snow over my knees, crap, went back in and asked DW if I could just start shooting at him? He left anyway, either figured it was too tough and gave up or after he got the end knocked out and around the mail box realized he was at the wrong place IDK?
Soo I started the lawn tractor, blowed one path to the end, nice he got all the heavy deep stuff by the road out of the way, started back and blew the $80 drive belt that has to be ordered and wait....

Now I have to call the BIL I don't care much for to plow us out tomorrow with his tractor, great... BIL that I do like and usually would do it anytime I needed him to with his truck works for the town now and I'm sure will have no time to plow anyone tomorrow.
I miss my plow truck now. Think I'll have to sell my old backhoe and invest in a tractor with a plow before next winter.

My grandson Draven and his two little sisters. They picked me loads of daffodils and we filled all the vases in my house.

His mother just moved back into the area and we now get to see him whenever we want. Greg got him into scouts and is now his Cub Scout leader. They just had their pinewood derby recently.

Cute kids. I love the little scout. How did he do with his creation at the Derby?
He didn't come in last, lol. It looked like a few of the cars were made by the parents. He won a ribbon for best effort. He had a good time so that's all that mattered. And pride that he did the work himself. The DD on his car is for Dunkin' Donuts. I am addicted so he made them his "sponsor."
