The Old Folks Home

Just got up and was standing at the kitchen window sipping coffee when I realized something was standing at the top of the ravine on the far side watching the house. It was big enough to look like our smallest dog...a Jack Russell/border collie mix only was bushy tailed.

It was a fox! Dogs kept us awake most of the night barking so it is going ot be a long day. That fox has got to go.

I use blue seal. I fed my keets the 28% protein game bird starter.

When they moved out to the coop they eat what the rest of the flock eats - a mix of the layer pellets at 16% and the turkey pellets at 18 to 22, depending on what's in stock. They also get exposure to all the treats the chickens get, the ones they seem to like are the seeds. They're not a big fan of anything else. They love pellets soaked in water as mash.

Huh!

Never would have thunk!

Especially since the 21% sure is high...but I guess just high for chickens...not keets.

I'm aware they "should" have a higher protein...but haven't seen any ill effects until now. I've been raising keets for 2 years. I will try this to see if it makes a difference. :thumbsup

Purina Game bird starter is 30%. I'd think guineas would fall in that category but never had them.
You're totally correct...they fall under the "game bird" category.

Mine start on 24% and drop to 21% when they go to the coop. Interesting!

Ducks were all out and dry by midnight when I checked em last night. I put them in with the oegb chicks and they seem to be getting along famously. The first two duckling had already figured out the eating thing. They sure stick close to the chicks!

Duck fuzz in the 'bator is worse than chick fuzz...SO much of it...lol.

Spent the morning assembling 30 frames for my beehive to replace the ones that got contaminated this spring with some kind of horrible wax moth.
Need to get them on the hive ASAP - but the glue needs to dry. I was not successful nailing them together so I had to resort to glue and half bent nails.
