The Old Folks Home

If ANYONE messes with any of my water equipment for the next 2 years, that anyone is going to get hurt. They took out the old iron filter, which was doing nothing, and installed a new one, then rebedded the filter media on the softener. Yay, it works great, however, it takes about 24 hours to get rid of the smell of the pvc glue from the water. I hate that smell. The next day, I cleared the lines, and no more pvc glue smell. Yay. That's when Dh went and got a new hot water heater. More pvc glue smell in the water, and since the water is hot, the smell is more pronounced. 2 days later, the smell is barely noticeable. Yay.

Water softener guy comes back to tighten something on the softener that was leaking. Dh expressed concern to water softener guy that he thought the pump was cycling too much, so they installed an additional bladder tank. Not only was all the pvc glue smell back, but I've got the rubberized taste in the water from the bladder. Yes, I know all the smells, and rubber taste will be gone by next week, but in the meantime it's just UGH! Yes, I'm using bottled water to drink, cook, and make coffee with until it all clears out.

In the meantime, I complained that the water wasn't hot enough. It's supposedly preset at 120 degrees at the factory, which I'm not convinced is entirely healthy, but the water coming out of the faucet was 110 degrees. Dh upped the thermostats to about 135. Ahhh, yes I could feel the water was hotter, but not 135 degrees hot. I tested, and it was 120 degrees. Better, but I still wouldn't mind it being slightly hotter. Dh told me to go check the other faucets. The water coming out of the bathtub faucet, and both showers is 135 degrees. The water coming out of the bathroom sink faucets, and kitchen faucet is 120 degrees. I suspected an anti scald device on those 3 faucets, but when we took them apart, nope, they don't have them, so it's got to be somewhere in the hot water line. :he

I am so glad we are on city water right now and there is never smell nor taste but there is fewer than 250 people in this town

Morning everyone!

I think I'm going to live!:celebrateNot feeling 100% but definitely feeling better this morning. I just need to get energy back. @penny1960 for pointing out Norovirus. I'm pretty certain that is what I have been fighting. They symptoms all fit down to the nagging headache. Thank you Walmart. NOT!

Weather here has been just fantastic. DH had taken the plow to the garden back in September and turned the weeds under. I was out yesterday and I have about a zillion volunteer tomato plants, squash plants and Zenias coming up. The tomato plants are even blooming although I doubt if they will produce anything. But the temps are in the mid 70s right now until the weekend I think I read with lots of sun and wind to go with it. It almost feels like spring instead of fall.

The chickens are loving it as much as we are. We usually light the wood stove up in the morning to take the morning chill out of the house and then let it die down. By noon we are opening windows. That is the only bad thing about wood heat--regulating it in chilly weather.

We aren't getting much fall color to the leaves this year:hitUsually we get a lot of reds golds and bronzes but not this year. This year they are just turning brown and dropping off the trees.

Plan for the day. I either have to make bread or go into town for groceries. Think I'll just make bread.

We have the same wuth the leaves just turning brown and falling off.
As for Walmart, do you use the wipes they have at the entrance to wipe down your cart and hands? I think that helps. Every one uses those things so they are probably full of germs.

Ugh, no fire this morning so i turned on the electric fake fireplace. It is 66 in here. Husband is out chopping kindling on the porch. What a racket!
The sun is shining and it is going to be a great day to build the hoop coop. I just need to get myself warmed up, fed, dressed and full of pills. Already put drops in my ear. Bonus, the wire clothes line i am using to lash the wire together came early!

I am so sorry about the water issues. I have a suspicion that the pvc glue process is not being applied correctly. You should not get a taste since the glue only goes to the outside of the pipe. If it is going to the inside, then too much is being used.

First make sure that the pipe goes completely into the joint without glue. If not, sanding is necessary.
A solvent is applied to both outside and inside where the pipe goes. A thin layer of glue is applied. The pipe is pushed together and allowed to cure. The solvent and the glue actually make the plastic of the pipe fuse together. Cure time is based on pipe size

I have not had a problem with tasting glue

@penny1960, generally I do but I was in a hurry the last time I was there and just grabbed a cart and ran with it. I do carry hand sanitizer in my purse and in our cars tho and use it liberally.....when I remember it.

The big problem with shopping carts is that they are germ breeding beds. I read a report once that said that they found a staggering amount of germs on the handles, infant seats and in the cart itself. Everything from EColi down the line to some really really nasty bugs.

Generally I do take the time to grab a handful of wipes and wipe a cart down but this time my bad. I didn't.

The sad thing is that people bring their sick little ones to go grocery shopping. The kiddies grab stuff, mom takes it away from them, sets it back on the shelf, some unsuspecting soul like me comes along and even though the cart is sanitized I pick up the item, put it in my cart and go about my business. Two days later, I'm sick. Sigh.Germs are just everywhere and viruses fill the air. Sometimes you just cannot avoid it.

We both caught H1N1 while at work, the customer looked at us and confessed they were getting a cold but came out anyway as they were trying to get things done before going on vacation. 48 hours later, DH was deathly ill and 24 hours after that so was I. We missed over a week of work and were probably sick enough to go to the hospital but didn't. Later we saw the person and asked them how their vacation was. They said terrible, they were sick the whole time:th:he.
Some people have a tendency to just not consider the possible outcome of going out sick. They will go to church, go shopping,go out to eat all the while spreading whatever they have all over the place. DH and I have weakened immune systems and take care to stay away from kids and crowds during the winter. We buy as much on line as we can but eventually ya just gotta go into town.
