Very nice beets, @Beer can. What variety are they?

As for being what I used to call a supervisor, I hear ya. I did the charge nurse route for about a year once and it was about the worst year of my career as I where I worked, the charge nurse also worked the floor like the other nurses plus was the supervisor for that shift. The nurses were never much of a problem other than one occasionally not showing up for a shift, most took their responsibilities seriously but as stated, the work code of the younger generation of CNA's left something to be desired. The hardest thing to do was fire one but yep, did it once without hesitation and regret. But it wasn't unusual to have one go on break and never come back again.

We have friends who own a large business in IL and their biggest problem is getting the employees to work when they bother to show up in the first place. It is a farm centered business, the work is hard but they are fair employers and treat their workers well. People just do not want to work these days but want to reap the benefits of their jobs.

We gave up on employees on our business when one office manager stole 40,000 dollars from us, siphoning off all the cash people used to pay their bills. She even stole from the town's police chief who always paid his bill with cash, and then did and identity theft on my husband, took out a credit card in his name and continued to use it while she was under investigation for the embezzlement charges by the state police. It was a mess. She eventually plea bargained when she was told she would go to prison and basically got a slap on the wrist. She is paying us back the almost 50,000 dollars she stole from us on a monthly basis. Sometimes we get 50$ sometimes 100$ a month when she was stealing 1000 to 1500 dollars from us in cash every month. We have to live to be in our 90s to see it all repaid to us. We intend to live that long to see it happen.

There is no justice some times. And yes it happens more times in businesses than you can imagine.
Mammoth long red mangels, mangelwurzels, they are a livestock fodder beet. You can eat them though, and make beer out of them. Supposedly they have the same food value as grain.
I'll probably cook a couple smaller one's up just to give them a try, but I grew them for the chickens. They look like chioggia beets inside, white and red.

Luckily I do not have to supervise any more. I used to supervise student assistants here. It was quite a process from hiring, scheduling and etc.

Now I just supervise myself! Goes with being in my position I suppose

I've grown Burgess Climbing Trip-L-Crop tomatoes before, didn't grow or climb as crazy as they are supposed to here with our short season but they were impressive sized tomatoes and super meaty. Make a great sauce tomato. Only had them perform good once though, few other times not so good so I don't bother with long season tomatoes anymore.
Probably would have done good this yr we had warm right through most of October and I actually got a decent crop of beefsteaks. Normally they are just starting to turn red come hard frost.

Good Catch, Penny!

Welcome @red horse ranch! Always room for another rocking chair even if you aren't over the hill yet (or about to reach the summit!) we love having new folks join us!

Burgess....mmmmm.....bought from them several times and each time the service, product got a little lower on the quality scale. Last time I ordered from them, they didn't send me the canna starts I ordered. They sent them finally but only as a 'return, replace' which meant when they failed...like what else were they supposed to do when they sent them in August.....I was out of luck. That order, I had spent about 35 dollars and one plant lived. I got tired of arguing with them, especially when the starts I received were not only bare root, but dried out twigs with no roots showing. Just saying.

I'll have to look around and see if I can find those Mangels. I think they would be worth growing.

Having been a moderator, I can tell you it is neither fun, nor easy, and folks get "in their feelings" altogether too easy, and too deep. I have my own journal over on BYH and when a certain member got upset with me he basically slandered/insulted/flamed/accused me on my own journal. This was not a simple disagreement or argument. The entire episode was a lead up to what made me quit as a moderator and I came very close to quitting the site completely. As the journal owner, I should have the ability to remove those posts and not have to rely on (wait for) a moderator to come clean up my journal for me. I was NOT saying that anyone should have "general powers" to do that.

Maybe as an alternative the ability to "remove for moderation" so it can be removed from the OP's thread until a moderator decides what follow up should happen. The amount of times moderation was required over on BYH was almost nonexistent compared to over here, but of course the membership over there is only ~12K compared to 340K over here.

I do not like confrontation and I discovered that as an active member of any forum, it is even MORE difficult to moderate. IMHO, to be an effective moderator one must not be an "active member" in the forum. Otherwise, when moderation is called for, it is too easy to be accused of "sleeping with the enemy" or fraternization, or having favorites, taking sides, etc. There are a LOT of very immature "adults" nowadays... not just kids. :duc:oops:
I can very easily see the points you make in your first paragraph; that can happen so easily, unfortunately. And you're one who seems to use non inflammatory language. There are so many here who start threads, some have had journals. It's a slightly scary idea for me to imagine that many people possibly being given that extra ability.

I like your idea in your second paragraph, the ability to "remove for moderation." I do think members should have to be members and active for a specified amount of time and/or prove they are capable of wielding the ability if it was ever to come to fruition. I don't feel a brand new member should be have that ability, no matter the age etc of the person.

I think in the case of moderating a thread where you are active...I would imagine it would (and probably should) be best policy to have the active posting moderator stand back and let another moderator oversee the moderating. I'm sure there'll still be members who might believe there's fraternization with both being moderators. If people aren't viewing from a mature standpoint...I think blame is the usual fallback and you're going to have that.

I didn't want to say it. I alluded to it by saying "seasoned" members. But since you said it and others concur...I'll say that I very much agree with your statement...
"There are a LOT of very immature "adults" nowadays... not just kids."

It's unfortunate. It's difficult to have to deal with those situations. It's unfortunate you had deal with your situation which resulted in your resigning from moderating and almost the site. This is one of my favorite quotes...I think it's pretty accurate.;)

"Most people do not listen with the intent to understand.
They listen with the intent to reply."

(I'm rushing a bit, hopefully this makes proper sense when I read it back later...lol)
