Weekend plans: Getting the Tums out because DH is trying to hit as many Veterans Day meal offers as possible. (This is a man who travels on his stomach.) He also enjoyed the discount given at Cabela's. (sp)
Fall is happening and the surroundings are awash in vivid yellow. Lawn maintenance is more vacuuming with the lawn tractor than actual mowing. I planted garlic according to directions and then our first frost never happened for them to overwinter to. The plants are now about 8" tall. Sigh. Still waiting for a good freeze, but enjoying the extra grow time for the kale, chard, beets and radishes.
Spent a little time this morning rebanding the chicks out of the Size 4 elastic bracelets into the Size 6. They're getting big! And, yes, a couple of the early-combers have the dreaded purple band of supposed disposable gender. (I do give a generous wait-and-see period, but log my suspicions.) Why banding? Because some Bluebars are feathered like Welsummers before their final molt (the females were born chipmunk) and we don't want to mix up the Welstralorps with the clean-legged black Marans. It also makes it easier to tell folks that the Welsummers have pink bands and the Bluebars have blue ones and the Marans sport the green. It looks like they're wearing little "Be Strong" bracelets.
