The Old Folks Home

It might be! Cost of living is 31 out of 50 states. Much better than California at 49th though.

You know, I kinda take issue with these charts because they rarely make sense even in their own choices. For example they place New Hampshire as #1 yet if you look at the three most important aspects to seniors, Maine actually ranks better in 5 of the categories (including the 3 most important ones & not far off in 2 others). The one aspect with the largest difference is taxes, and that's #6 in importance. Also of note, the majority of retirees are not wealthy enough that the tax consequences are really a major issue (IMHO).

Oh my goodness, Wicked, what an ordeal for you and your husband. I am so glad that the doctor he saw had the common sense to as my husband puts it, not to ignore the elephant in the room. So many doctors do that. He could have easily said 'oh, it's just a virus', sent him home with orders to eat light push fluids, take ibuprofen, blah blah blah and missed what was really wrong with him. Prayers sent for a speedy recovery. Tell him to get out of the hospital! If you aren't sick when you go in you will be when you get out!

For all you folks who CHOSE to live in arctic conditions... more heat to ya! :lau Try not to freeze!

:wee finally turned on the stove. Yep, the temp inside is now DIFFERENT than the temp outside. :th

Kids can talk, in the house, and steam doesn't come out of their mouths.

Hopefully I'll be getting back into the swing of things now that I'm back home more...lol.

:hugs Super scary. Glad it is mostly over.

Woohoo! App finally updated and I can post again! I missed y’all!

good to see you! It has been awhile.

I had more quotes. :rant

@dsqard good to see you again! :frow

Hello everyone! I am waiting on a call from the vet so i can go get Kiss, my young Siamese cat. He is getting snipped. He has flat chest, so he has breathing issues. I am a wreck, i hate medical waiting!
My son got the ring i shipped, but one of the diamonds is missing and was not when i shipped it. Very odd.
I hope everyone with health issues gets better soon. I have a sore throat myself.
Today i am building a bunny cage and tomorrow i pick up 3 more bunnies!
Oh yeah, did i tell you i am building a greenhouse?

It's been mostly nice here. The last few days it dropped down to -15C (5 F) but it's been hovering around -5C to 5C. That's been really nice! It's warming to -5 today and its supposed to as high as 2-3 C the next few days. The only thing about the nicer weather is all the ice. I've been careful to tread where there's little ice. Last thing I want to do is fall down and break something...lol.

It's been a crazy week. Last Saturday, Mr. January, an OEGB went missing and we could hear his muted crows and figured he fell down behind the only cupboard there is in the shop. After moving most of the shelves and items from around, we couldn't see him in behind. I grabbed a pail to stand on to get a better view on the top and who was sitting under the pail but Mr. January. Our goal was to clean the coop after we had a coffee, but Dh was feeling nauseous. That progressed into discomfort and then to pain in his lower abdomen. By 7:30 pm we were on our way to emergency. All tests/bloodwork came back negative...but on the slim chance with Dh's history of clots, they gave him a blood thinner and booked A CT scan at the city hospital.

The radiologist came out and spoke to us explaining that DH has a large clot, about an inch long, in the large artery to the small intestine. Thankfully it was not occluded, meaning there was still some blood flow past the clot. I've certainly learned a lot about the mesenteric arteries, mesenteric ischemia and all the facets that go with that.

Sunday was spent waiting while they did more tests and talking to the doctors. I've been in every day except yesterday. So far, so good...he's on blood thinners taken twice daily. It appears no major damage was done to the tissues of his intestine. He is on food again. They've done tests on his heart which have been clear. He still has tests that will are to be done, but they'll be done as an outpatient.

I've already received a call from the doctor who saw him that first night in emergency about follow up on the reports he'd received back so far. We're impressed that he made the right call on starting DH on blood thinners going on our information alone about DH's past history of clot... even though all tests had come back negative. We also liked that he questioned why DH hadn't been sent for a workup on clotting factors prior to this since he's prone to clots. We wish someone had followed up with us on that or someone had mentioned something and we could've followed up. I think DH is going to stay with him at this point for his doctor.

When Dh went in for his second surgery the docs/staff didn't even listen to our concerns because the clot had never been confirmed. It was a small town emergency that didn't have the tests to confirm the clot. Even now it gives me the chills knowing now that he should've been on blood thinning medicine when he'd experienced such a major episode. There was zero follow up. He was gray and he couldn't breathe when I took him in...it progressed so fast. That was by far the worst attack so far. Frustrating to look back. We've learned a lot now. We're still learning...lol.

Hopefully I'll be getting back into the swing of things now that I'm back home more...lol. :)
Good Catch by the new Dr.
I hope you can get a better primary care physician.

Absolutely!

Thanks for the analysis. I would not move to new hampshire--New Mexico is very low on the list but it looks good to me. Crime is usually localized so look for a place with low crime in the state.

Cost of living and tax hit is bigger.

California scored high on weather which is true in parts of California. Not where I live though

Deep cleaning here. DH ran down to the Amish feed store to buy chicken food for my poor starving chickens.....

Not quite the bad but I told him I have a bantam rooster that feels like a basketball with legs, head and feathers.Missing a meal isn't going to hurt any of them..........and he brought me home a bag of homemade Amish candy. Tastes like Reese's Peanutbutter cups! They do make delicious candy in the community around us.

@Alaskan, I thought about your heatless house this morning when it hit 17 degrees here.

Your kids deserve a medal. I'm screaming about being cold if it dips down to 72 in the house.
