It's been mostly nice here. The last few days it dropped down to -15C (5 F) but it's been hovering around -5C to 5C. That's been really nice! It's warming to -5 today and its supposed to as high as 2-3 C the next few days. The only thing about the nicer weather is all the ice. I've been careful to tread where there's little ice. Last thing I want to do is fall down and break something...lol.
It's been a crazy week. Last Saturday, Mr. January, an OEGB went missing and we could hear his muted crows and figured he fell down behind the only cupboard there is in the shop. After moving most of the shelves and items from around, we couldn't see him in behind. I grabbed a pail to stand on to get a better view on the top and who was sitting under the pail but Mr. January.

Our goal was to clean the coop after we had a coffee, but Dh was feeling nauseous. That progressed into discomfort and then to pain in his lower abdomen. By 7:30 pm we were on our way to emergency. All tests/bloodwork came back negative...but on the slim chance with Dh's history of clots, they gave him a blood thinner and booked A CT scan at the city hospital.
The radiologist came out and spoke to us explaining that DH has a large clot, about an inch long, in the large artery to the small intestine. Thankfully it was not occluded, meaning there was still some blood flow past the clot. I've certainly learned a lot about the mesenteric arteries, mesenteric ischemia and all the facets that go with that.
Sunday was spent waiting while they did more tests and talking to the doctors. I've been in every day except yesterday. So far, so good...he's on blood thinners taken twice daily. It appears no major damage was done to the tissues of his intestine. He is on food again. They've done tests on his heart which have been clear. He still has tests that will are to be done, but they'll be done as an outpatient.
I've already received a call from the doctor who saw him that first night in emergency about follow up on the reports he'd received back so far. We're impressed that he made the right call on starting DH on blood thinners going on our information alone about DH's past history of clot... even though all tests had come back negative. We also liked that he questioned why DH hadn't been sent for a workup on clotting factors prior to this since he's prone to clots. We wish someone had followed up with us on that or someone had mentioned something and we could've followed up. I think DH is going to stay with him at this point for his doctor.
When Dh went in for his second surgery the docs/staff didn't even listen to our concerns because the clot had never been confirmed. It was a small town emergency that didn't have the tests to confirm the clot. Even now it gives me the chills knowing now that he should've been on blood thinning medicine when he'd experienced such a major episode. There was zero follow up. He was gray and he couldn't breathe when I took him in...it progressed so fast. That was by far the worst attack so far. Frustrating to look back. We've learned a lot now. We're still learning...lol.
Hopefully I'll be getting back into the swing of things now that I'm back home more...lol.
